Join us for an opening reception of Outside In, an exhibition by John Angell and Cheryl Gleason.
John’s BodyWork collection is taken from his own X-rays and MRIs which he colorized and manipulated. They can read as almost Abstract Expressionist or Pop Art pieces in some cases. While the images are extremely clinical, they are also very intimate, actually looking beneath the skin. They are a commentary on the aging process as well as an explosion of color and/or internal landscapes.
Cheryl Gleason primarily works with oil and cold wax on panel, although she also explores encaustic, upcycled materials, mixed media, and more recently, acrylic. Regardless of the medium, her goal remains consistent: to craft pieces that harmonize color, texture, lines, and mark making to evoke emotions, memories, or simply a smile.
The artists, John Angell and Cheryl Gleason, will attend the opening reception, 5:30-8 p.m. Friday October 4, coinciding with the downtown Woodland First Friday event. Live music, light refreshments, and Yolo County wine will round out the reception.
This event is free and open to the public.
