These Davis residents met at a Pence Gallery watercolor class taught by Joanne Andresen. While their styles are distinct, their work shares themes of light, contrast and use of color.

Tracey Long always considered herself to be creative, but has only begun seriously devoting time to painting within the past few years. She mainly works in watercolor because she is enthralled by the way the pigment moves and behaves. She is inspired by nature, animals, light and shadows.

Megan Lowry had some formal training in painting and drawing at the City College of San Francisco and CSU San Francisco 35 years ago, but has only recently started to intensively study watercolor. She admits that watercolor is known to have a mind of its own, but nonetheless enjoys the challenge of trying to achieve a mutually beneficial understanding with the medium. Her goal is to create paintings that offer alternate views of common objects.

Kim Ohlson discovered watercolor as a creative outlet and a source of calm during the pandemic. Exploring this expressive medium took her on a journey of embracing its fluid and unpredictable nature. She is continually inspired by the magic of watching water and pigment mingle on paper; watercolor creates images that cannot be fully visualized before their inception because they only appear at the whim of the medium. Kim cherishes the wonderful community she has found as a result of this journey.

Pam Spycher finds endless inspiration in natural landscapes and quiet moments of everyday life. Although watercolor is her primary medium, she also utilizes acrylics, oils and mixed media to capture atmosphere, light and texture. Every piece begins as a small adventure and ends as a story.

Meet these artists at their 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on August 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
