From Hive to Handmade: Wax Working, Honey and Hive Products Work

What can you create from one of the most remarkable materials produced by honey bees? Join the California Master Beekeeper Program and Bee Haven Team at the E. L. Niño Bee Lab for a full day of hands-on learning, creativity, and discovery, led by certified CA master beekeeper and educator Catherine Hounshell alongside Dr. Elina Niño and her lab team.
You’ll learn how bees make wax and how it functions in the colony, how beekeepers collect and safely clean and process beeswax, and how to turn it into handcrafted products you can make again at home.
This is definitely not a workshop where you simply sit and listen. You’ll create molded beeswax candles, poured candles, and beeswax lip balm, and take home two of each item. All materials are provided. With the holidays just around the corner, the timing could not be better for handmade gifts.
Enjoy a half-hour lunch break outside in the Bee Haven Garden, so please bring a bag lunch. Come with friends, come ready to play and create!
