Mother Road

In Octavio Solis’s provocative drama Mother Road, the last surviving Joad and a distant relative embark on a life-changing road trip. The Department of Theatre and Dance at UC Davis presents this “sequel” to John Steinbeck’s American classic as the opening production of the 2026–2027 season. Elderly William Joad needs to find an heir to his sprawling Joad ranch in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He locates the only other surviving descendant of Tom Joad — young Martín. Together, they ride Mother Road (Route 66) from Bakersfield to Oklahoma, and their chapters continue where, years ago, Steinbeck left off. Performances will be Nov. 19–21 and Dec. 3–4 at 7 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5 in the Main Theatre, Wright Hall.
Tickets are $19 for adults; $15 faculty and staff; $12 youth or seniors; and $8 for UC Davis students.
