The Climate Movie Circle is proud to present our April Earth month film selection, the “10 Best of the Best Short Films from One Earth Young Filmmakers Contest,” a series of shorts selected from 10 years of submissions. The contest is held yearly by Chicago area non-profit One Earth Collective. This FREE screening with popcorn and optional follow up discussion will be held in-person Sunday, April 23 from 1:30pm to 4:00pm at the Blanchard Room of the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Yolo County Library at 315 E. 14th Street, Davis, CA.
The “10 Best of the Best” is an unrated family friendly collection of shorts produced by young adults. Parents may want to preview the film on the One Earth Film Festival website; some scenes of animals in transit may be upsetting for some. Specifically, the film depicts scenes from “an LA Animal Save Vigil. During these peaceful events, animal rights activists wait on the side of the road for truckloads of pigs to stop for two minutes of compassion before heading to slaughter. During those two minutes, the activists spray the pigs with water, stroke those they can reach, and look into their eyes.”
This month our screening and discussion will be followed by an in-person pledging opportunity for the inaugural Earth Day Pledge Challenge from 4pm to 5pm. Volunteers will be capturing 2-minute “Why I’m pledging” videos. Post your own videos to social media, tag us @cooldaviscity, and use the hashtag #YoloEarthDayPledge2023. Learn more about the pledge.
