Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Endowed Lecture: Enrique Chagoya

January 30, 2025 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

free

Using his art to comment on social and environmental issues, Enrique Chagoya juxtaposes secular, popular, and religious symbols to address the ongoing cultural clash between the United States, Latin America and the world as well. The artist is the 2025 Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Endowed Lecturer at UC Davis. Chagoya is a Mexican-born American painter, printmaker and educator. His prints, drawings, collages and multiples offer critical commentary on the global reach of the United States and its cultural, political and historical tensions with Latin America. Organized by the Maria Manetti Shrem Art Studio Program and co-sponsored by the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.
