Blanketed: New Paintings by Jack McTiernan

Using a combination of materials, Jack creates dynamic images that celebrate the beauty in everyday surroundings. “Blanketed” refers to his layering process, beginning with a watercolor, pastel and acrylic background applied with spray or airbrush. Hand-cut stencils and graphite produce a foreground which is finished with a layer of ink and a mixture of cold wax and oil paint. Jack’s unique paintings highlight the beauty in shapes created by what mankind has manufactured to fill the landscape – buildings, bridges; even streetlights and stop signs.
The Artery presents Blanketed with an Artery reception on Friday, November 10, 7-9 pm. The artist will also have a Q & A from 11-Noon at the Artery on October 29. In addition, Jack opens his Davis studio from 4-6pm on November 17.
