Born and raised in Sweden her take on Americana has an unmistakable nordic flair, yet her songs portray the landscapes and her heartfelt impressions of the U.S like she knows it intimately. And after touring her way through 47 states, one could say she does. Years of performing live in big and small settings, at Festivals and in living rooms, in castles and cabins, she has honed her craft into something more than just an artist, – an avid storyteller with a voice comparable to giants like Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins, or as the East Oregonian put it – ”Sofia Talvik’s mesmerizing voice is really all that she’ll need to entertain.”
Her Folk/Americana album “Paws Of A Bear” is the 8th in her catalogue not counting EPs and singles. It has been praised in numerous publications and blogs such as Billboard, PopMatters and Americana Highways. The first single ”Take Me Home” charted in the top 10 of Folk Radio Charts for several months.
ofia Talviks music has a special tint of her Scandinavian heritage, making her a favorite among music lovers. A North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy. She is a veteran performer with 6 full length albums who tours both Europe and USA every year. She’s seen more states, and more places in the USA than the average american, and she seems to love it.
She has been compared with giants like Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins, as well as fellow Swedes “First Aid Kit”, but has her own raw quality, a down to earth sound that makes her brilliant songwriting skills shimmer even more. She doesn’t have to hide behind the sounds, her songs and performance speaks for themselves.
Sofia Talvik was charting as the 3rd most played artist on Folk Radio USA in December, and her Christmas album “When Winter Comes” charted as no 5. Her Christmas single charted as no 7.
Her latest album ”Big Sky Country” (named one of the 5 best Americana albums of the year by British newspaper The Telegraph) celebrates her love for the vast plains, big mountains and sandy coastlines in the states that she toured through, as well as the warm and quirky people she met on the road. “One of the most distinctively memorable Americana albums of recent years was made by a tirelessly touring, talented Swedish songwriter Sofia Talvik” wrote New York Music Daily,
She’s played the big festivals like Lollapalooza and SxSW, opened for artists like Maria McKee and David Duchovny (X-files, Californication) but the intimate setting of a smaller stage where she can casually joke and communicate with the audience is really where her strength as a performer shines the most.
