During this installment of Salon Series, Curators of the exhibition Vibrant Explorations Omar Thor Arason and Manuel Fernando Rios will discuss their respective careers. Topics will include their creative process, the philosophy of their visual aesthetics, content, experiences navigating through the local Art community, as well as the idea behind their group exhibition.
Omar Thor Arason is an Icelandic-American artist residing in Carmichael, CA. He received his BA and MA at CSU Sacramento, and his MFA at Stanford University. He has taught at Stanford University, and currently teaches at CSU Sacramento and Sierra College in Rocklin, CA.
Manuel Fernando Rios is a West Sacramento, CA based artist, curator, Axis Gallery member, YoloArts board member and is an Associate Professor of Art at Woodland Community College in Woodland, CA. Rios earned his BA and MA in Studio Art from California State University, Sacramento and was awarded with the Headlands Center for the Arts Graduate Fellowship. He then received his MFA with an emphasis on Painting from the University of California, Davis. Rios’ work is included in permanent collections at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library at San Jose State University and American River College in Sacramento, CA. Manuel has shown in such venues as the Museum of the African Diaspora (M.o.A.D.), San Francisco, CA and the Museum of Culture and the Environment, Central Washington University, Ellensburg, WA. His artwork was recently published in Articulator: Art & Conversation with Sacramento Creatives.
