SUMMARY:The Abstract Language of Ceramics
DESCRIPTION:The Abstract Language of Ceramics\nExhibit: April 10 – June 3\, 2026\nReception: April 10\, 6-9 PM (Free) \nThe Abstract Language of Ceramics features the work of ceramic artists Karyn Gabriel\, Mark Goudy\, Kris Marubayashi\, Liza Riddle\, and Laura Van Duren. Together\, these artists create striking geometric and biomorphic forms that underline their pursuit of simple forms inspired by nature. Karyn Gabriel’s woven vessels and hangings merge the idea of fiber and weaving with the flexible nature of clay. Goudy’s current sculptures are modeled on mathematical equations\, which he adapts on the computer\, using new technology to design and create molded forms. Kris Marubayashi’s vessels have a sense of movement and balance\, and employ natural textures and an earth-toned palette. Liza Riddle’s modified cubes\, hanging plinths\, and circles use color sparingly to emphasize the beauty of cracks that form while drying. Call (530) 750-1180.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Pizza Night\n\n\nEach Wednesday we turn our 10-ton hearthstone deck oven up to 11 and turn out some amazing artisan pizzas. It’s a somewhat exclusive affair since our capacity is limited—and we regularly sell out. We’re a bakery after all—not a pizzeria. There’s no assembly line or tunnel baking. Each pizza is created by hand and served with a healthy dose of love. No delivery\, sorry. \nOur pizzas are crafted in the same farm-to-oven tradition as our baked goods. We use California-grown and -milled premium flour\, 15% organic whole grains\, and a long-fermentation\, 100% naturally leavened formula—resulting in a really tasty and bubbly crust. And we use only the best ingredients and toppings\, with produce we like to source at the Davis Farmers Market. \nThere’s only one size—about 14 inches in diameter—and six slices. They generally serve one to three humans\, depending on appetite. We also offer big\, sharable garden salads\, local beer & wine\, soft drinks\, and amazing desserts.

This ground-breaking exhibition will feature original objects\, archival photographs\, plans and drawings\, a part-built section of a typical 1970s house in Village Homes recreating a living space and demonstrating the passive solar features\, and an interactive three-dimensional site plan of the neighborhood’s unique landscape. Other highlights include a 30-minute documentary film about the community.

Mantras are ancient healing sounds that takes the mind off of the stress of modern day life\, and gives us real rest. \n  \nWe will practice 3 simple techniques that you can continue to practice at home on your own. This includes deep breathing\, a technique using beads (Japa meditation)\, and music (Kirtan). \n  \nWe will be in the Fireside Room (C Street entrance). Free/ Donations accepted. \n

DESCRIPTION:Figure Drawing Session\nWednesday\, April 22\, 6:30-9 PM\n$15 Members\, $22 Non-Members | Limited to 10 participants\nRegistration & payment is required in advance through the Pence’s website. \nWe hold self-guided figure drawing sessions with a nude model every 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month\, from 6:30-9 PM. This group is for both experienced artists and amateurs to have an opportunity to draw from the nude model. If you have never drawn from a live model before and would like to join us\, you are very welcome! People of all skill levels\, ages 18 and up\, are welcome and encouraged to join. \nThis is not a class\, and no instruction is provided. The atmosphere is relaxed and non-competitive. Bring your own art materials\, and we’ll provide a comfortable place to sketch or paint live models in our upstairs classroom space. Participants will work independently through a warm up with shorter poses and longer\, twenty-minute poses.
