Her work has been shown in numerous juried shows and in the galleries in the many states in which she has resided. She has a strong passion for color dynamics and continues to study color theory with oil painter and colorist Elio Camacho. \n“Landscapes are mostly all I paint these days because the subject matter is so available and offers so much beauty. SUMMARY:Women of Northern California: Making Meaning for Yesterday\, Today\, & Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:About\nThe John Natsoulas Gallery is pleased to announce that\, coinciding with Women’s History Month\, we will be hosting an exhibition entitled Women of Northern California: Making Meaning for Yesterday\, Today\, and Tomorrow. This exceptional exhibit will showcase how women have and continue to develop unique artistic visions that derive from the varied social\, political\, and cultural experiences that are endemic to this particular region. Northern California is a unique nexus of influences\, and the women who are a product of this environment have drawn from diverse sources of inspiration. \nThis exhibition and the accompanying publication will contribute to the overdue recognition of many of these outstanding artists. While women have played a crucial role in building the regional artistic community and have pushed art making in new directions\, their persisting exclusion from the artistic canon is an issue that needs correcting. This exhibit is a celebration of the strong\, influential women who have led the way in establishing and developing artistic movements and media. It will also offer the opportunity to explore the many ways in which these artists have contextualized and represent their experiences living as women in Northern California. Through this examination of both historic and contemporary art\, the collection of art will highlight the tenacity of the artistic legacies that women establish\, often for other women. By looking at the past and present\, we aim to reveal the vision of the future. \nFeatured Artists\nSalma Arastu\, Joan Brown\, Squeak Carnwath\, Julia Couzens\, Jay DeFeo\, Allison Fall\, Viola Frey\, Kim Frohsin\, Franceska Gamez\, Michelle Gregor\, Lynn Hershman Leeson\, Laura Hohlwein\, Mildred Howard\, Margaret Keelan\, Sahar Khoury\, Marilyn Levine\, Hung Liu\, Pat Mahony\, Kara Maria\, Klea McKenna\, Jenna Meacham\, Michelle Murillo\, Deborah Oropallo\, Emmy Lou Packard\, Lucy Puls\, Rachelle Reichert\, Lisa Reinertson\, M. Louise Stanley\, and Seongmin Yoo \nThe opening reception for the exhibition will be on Saturday March 4 from 7:00 – 9:00pm. There will be refreshments and a performance by one of the featured artists – Allison Fall. Come enjoy a night to celebrate seven decades of art by Northern California’s most notable women artists.  \n  \nHours\nWed: 11am – 5pm\nThurs: 11am – 5pm\nFri: 11am – 9pm\nSat-Sun: 12 – 5pm \nCurated by Sarah Poisner

SUMMARY:Art by Cathi Newlin & Toni Rizzo
DESCRIPTION:The Pence Gallery unites the fantastic work of painter Toni Rizzo and sculptor Cathi Newlin in a new joint exhibit. Toni Rizzo is a painter from Davis and the owner of the local art business\, Artiful World. Her signature style combines serene and psychedelic backgrounds with high realism portraiture. Featuring everything from wild animals to household furniture\, her work has a surreal\, timeless quality that evokes a feeling of ‘home.’ Cathi Newlin is a ceramic artist who lives in Sacramento. Over ten years ago\, she transitioned from doing functional pottery to making sculptural ceramics. While some may remember her expressive imaginary creatures on display in the Pence gift shop\, she also uses real animals\, perhaps inspired by her time as a zookeeper\, as the theme of her creative work. \n  \nBoth artists have a light-hearted\, playful take on artmaking that leads them to explore imagery full of fantasy\, surrealism\, or comedic exaggeration. We invite you to enjoy the exhibit upstairs in our Andresen Learning Center gallery at the Pence. \n  \nExhibit dates: March 3 – April 30\, 2023 \nReception: Friday\, March 10\, 6 – 9 PM (free admission) \nAddress: Pence Gallery | 212 D Street\, Davis\, CA 95616 \nGallery hours: 11:30 AM – 5 PM\, Tuesday – Sunday (closed Mondays) \n  \nImage: C. SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout!
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pence Gallery for our 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on March 10\, 6 – 9 PM (free admission). Browse the art exhibits and enjoy a free wine tasting by Twisted Cedar Wines. \n  \nArt by Cathi Newlin & Toni Rizzo  \nMar. 3 – Apr. 30\, 2023 \nThis new joint exhibit unites the fantastic work of painter Toni Rizzo and sculptor Cathi Newlin. Toni’s signature painting style combines serene and psychedelic backgrounds with high realism subjects. Cathi sculpts expressive\, imaginative ceramic creatures with vibrant colors. Both artists have a light-hearted\, playful take on artmaking that leads them to explore imagery full of fantasy\, surrealism\, or comedic exaggeration. \n  \nFigurative Exposé \nFeb. 10 – Apr. 2\, 2023 \nThe California Art Club (CAC) was first established in 1909 in Los Angeles to celebrate the heritage and practices of traditional fine art worldwide. Each year\, the Club holds a juried exhibition promoting artists who follow in the tradition of realism and craftsmanship established by the Club’s founders. This year\, the Pence will display the Club’s juried exhibit of figurative drawings\, paintings\, and sculpture by select CAC artists\, as juried by master painter Dan Schultz.  \n  \n— \n  \nVisit the Pence and explore other art venues in Downtown Davis on 2nd Friday. We will have printed ArtAbout maps available that night for your self-guided artwalk. Follow the 2nd Friday ArtAbout Facebook page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/davisartabout. \n  \nImages: Randy Berrett\, “Otiano”; Toni Rizzo\, mini-painting; Cathi Newlin\, “Grumpy Orange Vase”
