SUMMARY:A New Spin on Vinyl
DESCRIPTION:YoloArts and The Barn Gallery present:\nA New Spin on Vinyl\n\nYoloArts’ The Barn Gallery is delighted to present A New Spin on Vinyl. This exciting exhibition boasts elements of modernism\, nostalgia\, and reuse of a unique material. Co-curated by Dwight Head\, Barbetta Lockart\, and Cynthia Lou\, select regional artists have created artworks incorporating records.\n\nStarted by Dwight Head\, Sacramento artist\, in 2018 to honor Russ Solomon the first “New Spin on Vinyl Show” (aka “The Record Show”) was born\, showcasing records not only giving us hours of listening pleasure\, but also endless inspiration as fine art.\n\nSacramento was Russ Solomon’s stomping ground. He loved music and records\, starting the world-renowned Tower Records that brought tunes of all sorts to the area and around the globe. He loved art and making art as a photographer. A big supporter of the arts in California\, his art collection included works by many regional artists.\n\nSince the success of the first exhibition\, there have been yearly exhibits\, involving more artists\, and artworks in a variety of mediums. Even as the show has expanded\, the core theme remains; all artists incorporate records into their work.\n\nThe artists and curators will be in attendance at the exhibition’s opening\, 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday June 20.  The reception will also feature music by Harold Sexton and hands-on art making with YoloArts’ Educators. Light refreshments and Yolo County wines will be available.\nProgramming around the exhibit includes:\nSaturday June 22 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Come out to a free record painting event for all ages. Participants will be able to paint a record to take home while listening to a DJ and enjoying snacks. Artists from the A New Spin On Vinyl exhibition will also be attending.\nSaturday July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Artists/instructors Dwight Head and Barbetta Lockart will be conducting a workshop where you will create works of art using paint\, glue\, paper\, and mixed media on old phonograph records as your art surface. The workshop fee is $120\, all materials provided. For more information or to register for the workshop go to yoloarts.org.\nThe exhibition runs through Saturday\, Aug 17\, 2024.\nThe Barn Gallery is located at 512 Gibson Road in Woodland. DESCRIPTION:Jaya King: chromavista \nExhibit: July 2 – August 16\, 2024  \nReception: July 12\, 6 – 9 PM \nArtist Talk: July 27\, 3 – 4:30 PM (Free\, donation $10 suggested) \n  \nJaya King is an interdisciplinary visual artist and muralist focused on the use of dramatic texture and movement. Her current exhibit of paintings\, aptly titled chromavista\, expresses her interest in conveying a deeper feel for the land through the use of high-vibrational color and textured surfaces. After starting her pieces with a base of neon acrylic paint\, she allows intuition to take over and guide her. Using palette knives and texture gels\, she builds up the surface to carve out mountains\, fields\, and waterways. Cutting through the layers to reveal the movement of time and the transitory nature of color\, the artist’s view of this region’s landscapes reveals itself.  \n  \n* See also from Aug. 5 – 31\, chromavista continues with a collection of Jaya’s smaller paintings displayed on our stairway! Her current exhibit of paintings\, aptly titled chromavista\, expresses her interest in conveying a deeper feel for the land through the use of high-vibrational color and textured surfaces. After starting her pieces with a base of neon acrylic paint\, she allows intuition to take over and guide her. Using palette knives and texture gels\, she builds up the surface to carve out mountains\, fields\, and waterways. SUMMARY:Metalworking and jewelry making class with Giana Galati
DESCRIPTION:An introduction to metal fabrication and metalwork jewelry. Students will learn metalwork techniques such as how to file\, saw\, hammer\, drill sheet metal\, and form different gauges of wire. This program will also focus on students learning an assortment of tools unique to the metalwork process as well as how to design in 3D and 2D form. Students will be able to walk away with their own handmade pendants\, rings\, cuff bracelets\, chains\, and mobile designs. Materials included.

DESCRIPTION:Jaya King: chromavista \nExhibit: July 2 – August 16\, 2024  \nReception: July 12\, 6 – 9 PM \nArtist Talk: July 27\, 3 – 4:30 PM (Free\, donation $10 suggested) \n  \nJaya King is an interdisciplinary visual artist and muralist focused on the use of dramatic texture and movement. Her current exhibit of paintings\, aptly titled chromavista\, expresses her interest in conveying a deeper feel for the land through the use of high-vibrational color and textured surfaces. After starting her pieces with a base of neon acrylic paint\, she allows intuition to take over and guide her. Using palette knives and texture gels\, she builds up the surface to carve out mountains\, fields\, and waterways. Cutting through the layers to reveal the movement of time and the transitory nature of color\, the artist’s view of this region’s landscapes reveals itself.  \n  \n* See also from Aug. 5 – 31\, chromavista continues with a collection of Jaya’s smaller paintings displayed on our stairway! DESCRIPTION:Slice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art 2024 \nExhibit: July 12 – August 16\, 2024 \nReception: July 12\, 6 – 9 PM \n  \nThe Pence Gallery’s Slice exhibit\, now in its 12th year\, is an ‘open theme’ exhibit\, displaying art that is conceptually thoughtful\, technically skilled\, and representative of contemporary trends in art. Over 40 regional artists from across California have been selected to show their work in this exhibit. Awards will be announced by the juror during the reception on July 12 at 8 PM. \n  \nThis year’s juror is Robert Ortbal\, Professor of Sculpture at California State University\, Sacramento. His work has been showcased in exhibitions and installations in San Francisco\, Los Angeles\, and New York\, as well as in Japan. His sculptural installations\, based on the transformation of common domestic and industrial materials\, appear to stretch our biological universe into different dimensions. Ortbal has also designed social practice works that question ideas of economic trade and civic space. He holds a B.A. in ceramics from San Francisco State University and an M.F.A. in ceramic sculpture from the University of California\, Davis. \n  \nThe Pence Gallery is open 11:30 AM – 5 PM\, Tuesday – Sunday (closed Monday). \n
