SUMMARY:Climate\, a Music Performance by Composer Erik Ian Walker
DESCRIPTION:On Dec. 4th we welcome you to join us at the UC Davis Wyatt Pavilion for the performance Climate by the ClimateMusic Project. Climate is an original composition by Erik Ian Walker\, in collaboration with The ClimateMusic Project. It tracks historical and projected variations in the climate system over 450 years\, from 1800-2250. \nThe ClimateMusic Project educates\, inspires\, and motivates diverse audiences to engage actively on climate change by creating and performing science-guided music and visual experiences to viscerally convey the urgency of taking action. Through music\, we make climate science personal and drive action. \nTheir mission is to generate conversations about the climate crisis and solutions\, and to motivate action in the audience members. Solutions to climate change exist; the challenge is to create the individual and collective will to take action. \n

SUMMARY:Video Game Orchestra: Through the Ages
DESCRIPTION:The Video Game Orchestra at UC Davis was founded in 2017 with the goal of allowing college musicians to explore the wonders of video game music. What started out as a small group of 9 musicians has now grown into a community of more than 100 members! All of our members are current students or alumni of UC Davis\, and all of our pieces are arranged by our own members. Each quarter\, we select a theme for our concert that explores a genre of video games\, allowing us to cover a diverse array of games throughout the year. In past concerts\, we have played pieces from games such as Final Fantasy XVI\, Genshin Impact\, Hollow Knight\, Pokémon\, and more. \nJoin us on Saturday\, December 7th at 6:00 PM as we go “Through the Ages” to experience the eras of history through video game music\, including pieces from beloved games such as Cuphead\, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag\, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI\, and more! \nEveryone is welcome! \n

SUMMARY:Stephen Giannetti: All In
DESCRIPTION:Stephen Giannetti: All In  \nExhibit: December 13\, 2024 – February 2\, 2025 \nReception: Friday\, December 13\, 6 – 9 PM (Free) \nArtist Talk: Saturday\, January 18\, 3 – 4:30 PM (Free\, suggested donation $10) \n  \nStephen Giannetti has explored the grid and the circle in various media over his 30-year career. Early in his career\, he pioneered a new mode of approaching the modernist grid. By painting three primary and three secondary colors in a specific pattern to define a set of same-sized circles\, Giannetti sought to create an engaging visual experience\, where the act of seeing color is primary. For the past 15 years\, Giannetti has adapted his method of hand-painting with traditional oil paint to the more contemporary application of acrylic spray paint. Using poker chips as a stencil for layering spray paint\, he creates an active space where colors mix\, and shapes fade in and out of view. During the pandemic\, the artist began to use poker chips as the building blocks of sculptural forms. By creating objects referencing baskets\, vases\, or geometric shapes\, the artist stays true to his interest in working with simplified forms and repeated patterns.  \n  \nSponsored by Royal Guest Hotels\, and Charles Cunningham.  \n  \nImage: Stephen Giannetti\, “South of Summer” \n

SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout reception: Sue Peri
DESCRIPTION:My Travels: Yolo County And Beyond \nSue Peri \nphotography \nDecember 7 to January 3 \n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: December 13\, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. \nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \nSue Peri became interested in photography as a teenager. She and her brother Paul created a darkroom in their family’s garage and spent countless hours developing images\, often listening to Jethro Tull. Peri enjoys all genres of photography\, from nature to photojournalism. \nPeri attended UC Davis and graduated in 1979. Her favorite activity in college was working as a photographer for the California Aggie because she felt that it gave her a unique perspective on the university. After graduating she worked for the local newspaper The Daily Democrat\, and then for the Davis Enterprise until 2017. \nDuring the COVID-19 pandemic she took photos for the Healthy Davis Together project and was an occasional photographer for the CommuniCare Health Centers. \nWhen she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020\, she found that photography took her mind away from the side effects of her treatment. She is now a volunteer photographer for the Yolo County breast care support group\, Thriving Pink. \nThe artist can be emailed at sdperi08@gmail.com for information and purchases regarding her work. \nYou can meet Sue Peri at her 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on December 13 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
