SUMMARY:The Crucible @ the Woodland Opera House
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Tom and Meg Stallard\nThe Crucible by Arthur Miller\nMarch 20 – April 4\, 2026 \nSet in 1692 Salem\, Massachusetts\, The Crucible follows the eruption of mass hysteria in a close-knit town after a group of young girls is discovered dancing in the woods. To avoid punishment\, the girls begin accusing townspeople of witchcraft\, igniting a wave of fear that fractures the wider community. As the court demands confessions\, respected citizens are forced to choose between self-preservation and truth. The accusations spiral into tragedy\, revealing how lies\, power\, and fear can destroy a society from within. Written in 1953 by famed American playwright Arthur Miller\, the play is in part an allegory for the anti-communist hysteria of the McCarthy era\, exploring the dangers of false accusations and the abuse of power. \nFor information on purchasing tickets please visit www.WoodlandOperaHouse.org or call our Box Office at (530) 666-9617. \n$20-45

SUMMARY:The Abstract Language of Ceramics
DESCRIPTION:The Abstract Language of Ceramics\nExhibit: April 10 – June 3\, 2026\nReception: April 10\, 6-9 PM (Free) \nThe Abstract Language of Ceramics features the work of ceramic artists Karyn Gabriel\, Mark Goudy\, Kris Marubayashi\, Liza Riddle\, and Laura Van Duren. Together\, these artists create striking geometric and biomorphic forms that underline their pursuit of simple forms inspired by nature. Karyn Gabriel’s woven vessels and hangings merge the idea of fiber and weaving with the flexible nature of clay. Goudy’s current sculptures are modeled on mathematical equations\, which he adapts on the computer\, using new technology to design and create molded forms. Kris Marubayashi’s vessels have a sense of movement and balance\, and employ natural textures and an earth-toned palette. Liza Riddle’s modified cubes\, hanging plinths\, and circles use color sparingly to emphasize the beauty of cracks that form while drying. Laura Van Duren shows a playful incorporation of found objects\, textiles\, and clay\, closely resembling the corporal reality of human interaction. \nThis exhibit is sponsored by Hollie Malamud & Chris Kelsch\, and Helen McClosky\, in memory of ceramicist Shelly Simon. \nImage:\nLaura Van Duren\, “Curl”\nKris Marubayashi\, Untitled\nKaryn Gabriel\, “Aspen Brick”\nMark Goudy\, “Flux Series”\nLiza Riddle\, Untitled

SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout reception: Jerri Chamberlain
DESCRIPTION:Blossoms To Remember\nJerri Chamberlain\nwatercolor\nApril 1 to April 25\n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: April 10\, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \n“My work transforms the relatively short life of a bloom into a lasting narrative of memory. As a child I gathered wildflowers and imagined their petals as silken ball gowns\, and that sense of play informs how I approach my artwork. I don’t just paint flowers; I paint the memories they evoke. I am drawn to the fleeting magical beauty of blooms. The transparency and fluidity of watercolor makes it ideal for capturing the subtle gradients of petals\, leaves and stems\, and it is these qualities that create the aura for organic and vibrant florals. Through this series of floral paintings I want to share the beauty of flowers\, and my fond memories of them\, with others.” \nAfter moving to Davis in 1974 Jerri Chamberlain dedicated her career to education by serving as a para-educator teaching reading. After she retired she painted with watercolors and oils as a creative outlet in order to maintain an active\, inquisitive mind. Her pieces have been shown at the Pence Gallery\, The Paint Chip\, and the annual Art Farm Gala. Jerri continues to explore the intersection of memory\, nature\, and lifelong learning via her artistic endeavors. \nMeet Jerri Chamberlain at her 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on April 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. \nPublic receptions for local artists will also be held at various venues on that same evening in conjunction with the Davis Downtown 2nd Friday ArtAbout. SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: David Kalb and Nancy Gelbard
DESCRIPTION:A collaborative exhibition by David Kalb and Nancy Gelbard\, exploring how two artists respond to the same moments in distinct yet connected ways. David’s street photographs capture spontaneous\, unguarded scenes from everyday life while Nancy’s oil paintings are created directly from these photographs\, allowing her to revisit and reinterpret the images. \nMoving from lens to brush\, the work reflects an ongoing dialogue between two ways of seeing—and the shared experience of observing the world together. In addition to their shared artistic experience\, each artist is also exhibiting individual pieces of their work.
