Through two free\, public events – a field trip and a hands-on workshop – they will introduce the community to the natural and cultural importance of tule\, and share their understanding of how tule has been – and can be again – interwoven into our land\, waterways and our lives\, through stories and touch. \nWhile rooted in Wintun ecology and culture\, learning to care for tule benefits all those who live alongside it. Light refreshments will be provided. \nPlease register for this event here: bit.ly/tuleteaching \nBios: \nDiana Almendariz is a naturalist\, culture-bearer\, storyteller\, and visual artist who has been working on the cultural and ecological revival and restoration of her Wintun homeland for over three decades. Her practice includes storytelling\, land-based pedagogy\, and traditional arts such as basket-weaving\, boat-making\, and more. She has been passing on this knowledge to her daughters who are accomplished cultural workers themselves. \nChristina is a Native Californian cultural practitioner of Maidu/Wintun/Hupa and Yurok heritage\, a Montessori teacher and mother of five\, who is passionate about nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards. \nOoti Maxine is a cultural practitioner and a visual artist\, who has grown up in her Maidu homeland in Sacramento\, and speaks of the many influences that shape contemporary life for Native Californians. \nThis project is a partnership of the YoloSol Collective\, the International House Davis\, the Yolo Basin Foundation\, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. This project has been made possible in part by a grant from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts\, in partnership with the California Arts Council\, a state agency\, the Walter & Elise Haas Fund\, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation\, and with support from Imagining America.

SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout reception: Larry Williams
DESCRIPTION:Lifting The Veil\nLarry Williams\noil painting\nMay 3 – 30\n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: May 9\, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \nLarry Williams is a retired art teacher whose work utilizes rich colors and enigmatic shapes. His background in stage and lighting design underscores a theatrical quality to his work. He incorporates forms that suggest or tease real life while slipping away into abstraction. As in a dream where events are transient\, he endeavors to create works that are just outside of the conscious and just inside of the subconscious. He would like the viewer to enter this realm when viewing his paintings; don’t try to identify specifics\, just experience and trust what you see. \nView more of the artist’s work at:\nwww.larrywilliams-art5.com\nFacebook.com/larrywilliams.sac\nInstagram.com/larrywilliamsart5 \nContact the artist for more information and prices on his work at larrywilliamsart5@gmail.com \nYou can meet Larry Williams at his 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on May 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Live music will be provided by The Folk Music Folks. \nPublic receptions for local artists will also be held at various venues on that same evening in conjunction with the Davis Downtown 2nd Friday ArtAbout.
