Transform cardboard\, various papers\, pom poms\, yarn\, and more into a lively and colorful animal marionette. \nHow it works:\nArt in Action engages kids in art projects that are fun\, creative\, and collaborative with their family members. This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12. No registration in advance is required\, but space and supplies are limited to the first 25 participants and are available on a first come\, first served basis. \nWhen you arrive\, pay with cash or card at the front desk. A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay\, but only has to pay for the project for themselves if they are also doing art. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a week of creativity\, storytelling\, and hands-on fun! This exciting half-day camp runs Monday–Friday (Aug 3-7) from 8:30 AM–12:00 PM and invites young artists to bring fairytales to life through puppet-making and imaginative play. The workshop will be held at the Jean Henderson Performing Arts Center\, 607 Pena Drive in Davis.  \nEach day\, campers will create a different type of puppet using a variety of arts and crafts materials\, including caterpillar puppets\, paper bag puppets\, stick puppets\, shadow puppets\, and sock puppets. As the week unfolds\, children will work together to invent their own original fairytales\, complete with colorful characters and magical adventures.  \nLed by Monica Reeves who has over 33 years of experience as an elementary school teacher; Jan Donowitz\, co-founder of DMTC with over 40 years working with children; and teen helper Lovette Guzman whose hobby is puppetry.  \nCamp Fee: $300 per participant  \nAll art supplies and materials are included.  \nPerfect for creative kids who love art\, crafts\, and imagination! DESCRIPTION:Studies in Light\, Contrast and Color\nTracey Long\, Megan Lowry\, Kim Ohlson\, Pam Spycher\nwatercolor\nJuly 28 to August 29\n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: August 14\, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \nThese Davis residents met at a Pence Gallery watercolor class taught by Joanne Andresen. While their styles are distinct\, their work shares themes of light\, contrast and use of color. \nTracey Long always considered herself to be creative\, but has only begun seriously devoting time to painting within the past few years. She mainly works in watercolor because she is enthralled by the way the pigment moves and behaves. She is inspired by nature\, animals\, light and shadows. \nMegan Lowry had some formal training in painting and drawing at the City College of San Francisco and CSU San Francisco 35 years ago\, but has only recently started to intensively study watercolor. She admits that watercolor is known to have a mind of its own\, but nonetheless enjoys the challenge of trying to achieve a mutually beneficial understanding with the medium. Her goal is to create paintings that offer alternate views of common objects. \nKim Ohlson discovered watercolor as a creative outlet and a source of calm during the pandemic. Exploring this expressive medium took her on a journey of embracing its fluid and unpredictable nature. She is continually inspired by the magic of watching water and pigment mingle on paper; watercolor creates images that cannot be fully visualized before their inception because they only appear at the whim of the medium. Kim cherishes the wonderful community she has found as a result of this journey. \nPam Spycher finds endless inspiration in natural landscapes and quiet moments of everyday life. Although watercolor is her primary medium\, she also utilizes acrylics\, oils and mixed media to capture atmosphere\, light and texture. Every piece begins as a small adventure and ends as a story. \nMeet these artists at their 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on August 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. \nPublic receptions for local artists will also be held at various venues on that same evening in conjunction with the Davis Downtown 2nd Friday ArtAbout. DESCRIPTION:Yolo County Fair \nAugust 7th-9th & August 12th-16th \nThe Yolo County Fair\, California’s longest-running free-gate fair\, returns in 2026 with more days\, more entertainment and more opportunities for families to celebrate the region’s agricultural heritage. \nFor the first time in its history\, the Fair will span eight days over two weekends. An Outdoor Kickoff Weekend will run Friday\, Aug. 7 through Sunday\, Aug. 9\, followed by the traditional Fair Wednesday\, Aug. 12 through Sunday\, Aug. 16. Admission to the Fair\, themed “Hog August Nights this year\,” remains free. \nThe new opening weekend will feature headline arena concerts by country music stars Hunter Hayes and Chris Lane\, corgi racing\, livestock shows\, a carnival midway\, silent discos and live entertainment on multiple stages.
