SUMMARY:Artist Reception: Larry Mitchell in Davis
DESCRIPTION:Larry Mitchell is a graduate of the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. He retired after a 35-year career in industrial design\, during which he started out creating consumer products. From there\, he operated a design consultation firm specializing in technical products\, graphic literature\, and corporate exhibitions for several Silicon Valley and Bay Area companies. \nLarry Mitchell continues to pursue his interest in design and art using watercolors as his primary media. “Painting with watercolors lets me explore a variety of techniques and painting styles I find exciting and enjoyable\,” he says. His work features the Davis Varsity Theater\, SF cable cars\, and landscapes of the Pacific coast\, Yosemite Valley\, and Putah Creek. \nYou can contact Larry Mitchell at Larryhmitchell@gmail.com. SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout: Slice\, Found\, and Exhibit It
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pence Gallery for our 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on July 8 from 6–9 pm (free admission). We will have three fantastic exhibits on display: \n  \nSlice: A Juried Exhibit of Regional Art (awards @ 7:30 pm) \nSlice is a display of contemporary art in all media that celebrates artists from all over California. This year’s juror is Chris Daubert\, artist\, writer\, and curator\, who chose pieces that are conceptually thoughtful\, technically skilled\, and representative of contemporary trends in art. On display June 21–Aug. 17. \n  \nFound \nThis exhibit features sculptures by various contemporary artists\, fabricated by assembling discarded or recycled objects into a cohesive whole. Since Found’s opening reception unfortunately could not take place as planned\, we hope you’ll attend the July 8 reception to celebrate the show. On display June 10–Aug. 14. \n  \nExhibit It! A Community Art Show (awards @ 8:00 pm) \nThis exhibit showcases the talent of our community’s artists. We are accepting 50 artworks for this non-juried exhibit\, and you can vote for your favorite artist to win the Public Choice award. The Curator’s Choice award will be announced during the reception. On display July 8–Aug. 14. \n  \n— \n  \nBrowse our exhibits and gift shop\, and explore other art venues in Downtown Davis. SUMMARY:Pence Gallery: Slice Walkthrough with Chris Daubert
DESCRIPTION:Join juror Chris Daubert on July 30 for an in-depth discussion and walkthrough of Slice at the Pence Gallery. Slice is our annual juried exhibit of regional art. Now in its 9th year\, this year’s Slice exhibit showcases a broad range of innovative and thought-provoking work by 31 California artists. \n  \nChris Daubert is an artist\, writer\, and curator. He has exhibited his drawings\, paintings\, and large multi-media installations locally and nationally for many years. His work has been shown at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and New Langton Arts in San Francisco\, The Drawing Center in New York\, and The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento\, among many other locations. Born in Oakland\, he was one of the artists/ founders of the nonprofit gallery ProArts. He has also served as the curator of the Richard L. Nelson Gallery at the University of California\, Davis\, and the Gregory Kondos Gallery at Sacramento City College. He also taught Painting and New Media from 2001-17 at Sacramento City College. \n  \nSlice is on display at the Pence Gallery from June 21–Aug. 17—we will also have an opening reception on July 8 from 6–9 pm.
