SUMMARY:Thursdays in the Davisphere (Picnic in the Park)
DESCRIPTION:Each Thursday from 4 to 10 pm\, several local businesses and bands will gather at Central Park for an evening of music\, food\, and community-building. All are welcome to attend! \n\nThursdays in The Davisphere. \nWhere: Central Park\, Davis\, CA \nWhen: Every Thursday 5:00pm – 9:30pm through October 27\, 2022 \n\n\nFind the latest musical acts here: https://davisdowntown.com/events-titd/ \nWhat is The Davisphere? \nIt is a vibrant\, eclectic & electric communal atmosphere where there is entertainment for all ages. The idea was based on the simple premise that positive energy builds when people get together and enjoy themselves. The Davisphere symbolizes community encompassment\, vibrancy\, the Earth we share\, and a place of belonging. \n \nThis inaugural event series features live music\, family entertainment\, traditional and exotic food and beverage\, a beer and wine garden\, local retail and service providers\, arts and crafts\, and nonprofit organizations. Our goal is for each event to begin with acts from local performing arts groups and end with regional or touring bands on stage with professional staging\, lighting and audio. \nNearly twenty food & beverage vendors are providing a wide variety of offerings – from veggies to meat and savory to sweet\, there is something for everyone! An exceptional atmosphere within itself\, The Davisphere’s Beer & Wine Garden is hosted by downtown Davis’ own University of Beer featuring craft brews and cider on tap plus local wine. A portion of alcohol sales benefits a featured Davis nonprofit organization every week. \nA wide range of retail\, arts & crafts\, service providers\, and nonprofits have booths that showcase their offerings and involvement in the community. \nSeptember 1st opened with a local favorite\, Noise Violation\, and headlined by Thunder Cover\, which featured pop/rock dance hits over the past seven decades. What an amazing kickoff to our inaugural event series it was that night! September 8th brought King Dream and Boot Juice\, two highly entertaining bands that drew and engaged a great crowd despite the blazing temperatures! September 15th welcomed beautiful temperatures and mesmerizing performances by Marty O’Reilly and Misner & Smith. \nThe 2022 Thursday night event series has been made possible by seed funding provided to Davis Downtown through a City of Davis grant. The grant was awarded to help revitalize the local business community and overall economy as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Davis Downtown’s goal is to make the event series financially sustainable for decades to come\, and after a shortened inaugural season in 2022 for it to continue to be an active weekly event May through October in subsequent years. \nDavis Downtown actively leads and energizes the downtown as the primary business\, entertainment and cultural center of Davis. Alive with activity seven days a week\, downtown Davis draws locals and visitors alike to experience fine food and beverages\, retail\, professional services\, arts and entertainment in an extraordinary and sustainable gathering place.

\nWhere: Central Park\, Davis\, CA \nWhen: Every Thursday 5:00pm – 9:30pm through October 27\, 2022 \n\n\nFind the latest musical acts here: https://thedavisphere.com/ \nWhat is The Davisphere?

SUMMARY:Salon Series at The Barn Gallery: How Art Became My Life with Kurt Fishback
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nOctober’s Salon Series guest speaker is California artist Kurt Fishback. Kurt is the juror of YoloArts’ 15th annual Art Farm Exhibition this year\, bringing his vast experience in a wide variety of media—including ceramics\, painting\, and photography. Kurt will talk about how the fine arts became his life’s philosophical and financial focus\, sharing images of his work throughout six decades of creating and exhibiting and stories about his life as an artist and educator. \nDate: Oct. 20\, 5:30–7:30 pm \nLocation: The Barn Gallery – 512 Gibson Road\, Woodland\, CA 95695 \nPrice: Free to attend \nRegister for the event here: [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/salon-series-how-art-became-my-life-with-kurt-fishback-tickets-384223491807]\nAbout the Photographer\nKurt Edward Fishback—son of photographer Glen Fishback and namesake of photographer Edward Weston—grew up as part of the photographic community in Northern California during the 1940s and 50s. Mentors and friends of the family included Ansel Adams\, Wynn Bullock\, and Edward Weston. \nDespite his immersion in the world of photography\, Fishback began his artistic career studying ceramic sculpture at Sacramento City College\, the San Francisco Art Institute\, and the University of California\, Davis\, in the 60s. He first experimented with photography in 1962 as a way to document his experiences with other sculptors. But it was not until 1973\, when his father invited him to teach at the Glen Fishback School of Photography\, that photography became Fishback’s primary mode of expression. Kurt continues to teach photography when he is not too busy maintaining his own artistic career. His first two major\, one-person exhibitions were held at the Crocker Art Museum in 1981 and the San Francisco Museum of Modern art in 1983. \nIn the tradition of the Salon\, YoloArts and the Yolo County Historical Collection invite you to join us monthly to learn from makers and shakers of Yolo County. Exchange ideas and increase knowledge through conversation with community members\, accompanied by sips and snacks.

SUMMARY:Family Dungeons & Dragons
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Family D&D! \nEach $20 ticket covers 1 Parent and 1 Child. Please reserve your space in advance. \nIn this beginner friendly group Parents can play with their kids and have a great time with other families for fun D&D one-shots and Mini-Campaigns. \nHave questions? For more info please email info@daviscardsandgames.com \nThis event will be run by Stephen Gordon and Jacob Johnson. \nAbout Stephen Gordon: \nI started GMing back in 2000 with D&D 3rd Edition\, experimenting with running modules and totally improvising adventures from scratch. Since then I’ve kept up with running games of D&D (even 4th Edition) and branched out into as many other RPGs as I can convince my friends to try. \nThe players matter a lot more than the game to me\, with the right group any RPG is incredible. I love running Dread and other rules light RPGs that focus on atmosphere and narrative. As a player\, I’m a fan of anything Powered by the Apocalypse\, and I have a major soft spot for Lancer because when else can I pilot a mecha and punch a kaiju in the face? A friend once described my style as asking “What’s the most exciting thing that could happen next?” and I think that’s pretty accurate. I’m always trying to find ways to say yes to my players\, and give them chances to do cool stuff. When I do challenge my players I try to do it in ways that don’t take away their agency. When I’m not reading RPG rulebooks for fun\, I like trying new board games\, watching Star Trek\, and playing Monster Hunter. Professionally\, I’m a freelance technical writer and RPG designer\, and I’m currently in the process of going back to school to become a therapist.

\nWhere: Central Park\, Davis\, CA \nWhen: Every Thursday 5:00pm – 9:30pm through October 27\, 2022 \n \n\n\nFind the latest musical acts here: https://thedavisphere.com/ \nWhat is The Davisphere?
