SUMMARY:Film Showing: Microplastic Madness
DESCRIPTION:Microplastic Madness is the story of 56 fifth graders from Brooklyn whose actions on plastic pollution morph into extraordinary leadership. \nInformational fair starts at 5:30 pm. Film starts at 6:30 pm. \nTickets are free\, but space is limited. \nThe film is an optimistic and inspiring take on the local and global plastic pollution crisis as told through the view of a group of 5th graders in New York City. The 5th graders spent 2 years investigating plastic pollution as citizen scientists\, community leaders\, and advocates. With stop-motion animation\, heartfelt kid commentary\, and interviews of experts and renowned scientists\, this alarming\, yet uplifting narrative conveys an urgent message in user-friendly terms with a take-action message to spark youth-led plastic-free action in schools everywhere. The film has been accepted to 37 film festivals and received 7 awards.

SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout reception: Terry McIlmoil Henry
DESCRIPTION:Terry McIlmoil Henry  \n“Napa\, Sedona\, And Points In Between” \noils and watercolors \nApril 1 to April 28 \n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: April 14\, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. \nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \nWhile pursuing a degree in dietetics at UC Davis\, Terry McIlmoil Henry’s busy schedule allowed her to enroll in only one art course. After graduating she began a 33 year career at the Robert Mondavi Winery. Throughout\, her desire to learn to paint was omnipresent.   \nAfter retiring she enrolled in an art course at Napa Valley College and it sparked the beginning of a journey to fulfill that life-long dream to learn to paint and enhance her creative spirit. Terry went on to study with Christine Olivo for five years and is currently taking workshops from Elio Camacho. Terry finds oils and watercolors to be challenging\, yet quite different from one another. \nTerry McIlmoil Henry’s exhibit will feature oils of Napa Valley vineyards and Sedona vistas\, and a few watercolor landscapes. \nContact Terry McIlmoil Henry via text to (707) 479-3298 or terrymhenry@gmail.com. \nYou can meet the artist at her 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on April 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be available. Entertainment will be provided by The Folk Music Folks playing folk songs from around the globe.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Maxine Solomon
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend an Artist Talk by Maxine Solomon at the Pence Gallery on Saturday\, April 15\, 2 – 3 PM. Join the artist for an engaging talk on creativity\, artistic process\, and inspiration\, as she addresses these issues relating to her current series of paintings on view at the Pence from April 11 – May 7\, 2023. This is a free event\, no registration required (suggested $10 donation). \n  \nIn her exhibit\, Somewhere Beyond Time\, Maxine Solomon’s current series of nonrepresentational oil paintings are about exploration\, spontaneity\, and energy. She approaches her canvases with no preconceived plan\, preferring to work intuitively with large brushes and sweeps of moving color\, alternating between building up and scraping back thick layers of paint. The final energetic atmospheres are often reminiscent of the natural phenomenon she experienced while living abroad\, as well as in Northern California. \n  \nImage: Maxine Solomon\, “A World Beyond Our World”
