SUMMARY:Anticipatory Grief Support Group
DESCRIPTION:There is no living without loss. Yet inside all loss\, no matter how painful\, there are seeds of hope. Grief doesn’t affect us only after a major loss or death; it’s something we experience when we know a loss is coming. In fact\, this kind\nof grief can take us by surprise because we feel the effects of grief even while trying to ignore what’s coming. And our grief is compounded because it’s not only death that worries us\, but so do all the changes that are coming—physical and mental decline\, shrinking social circles\, financial concerns\, and loss of dreams and plans. Whether you’re a patient\, a family member\, or close friend\, this support group is designed to help you process what you’re feeling\, find companionship and perspective from others\, and find a pathway forward with dignity and even hope for a meaningful parting and transition to the next stage of your journey.

SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout at the Pence Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pence for our 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on January 12\, 6 – 9 PM. Enjoy some wine while browsing the art exhibits and gift store. Free admission! \n  \nChristina Kent: Day to Night \nJan. 9 – Feb. 29 \nView a solo exhibit by Christina Kent\, the recipient of the Pence’s Emerging Artist Award 2023. Kent expands upon her observations of everyday life in the city in a new series of oil paintings that capture intimate scenes of daily life. She builds these compositions with an eye to the subtle nuances of light and shadow\, using gestural brushwork to reveal the changes in the landscape from morning until night.  \n  \nMisuk Goltz: The World We Live In \nJan. 5 – Feb. 25 \nMisuk Goltz’s watercolor paintings convey a world seen through both her travels and daily life that is full of emotional resonance. Having used travel journals to record and expand upon her experiences around the world\, she has a wealth of visual moments to share. This exhibit largely centers on her vignettes from these travels\, alongside rural scenes from our region. \n  \nJoseph Bellacera: The Matter of Light \nDec. 8 – Feb. 2 \nView several series of work by Joseph Bellacera that reflect his interest in changing light into matter\, and matter into light. In large-scale mixed media works and digital prints\, the artist turns his observations of the natural world into intriguing configurations of color\, pattern\, and texture. \n  \n— \n  \nVisit the Pence and other venues in Downtown Davis for the 2nd Friday artwalk. We will have printed ArtAbout guides available that week.

SUMMARY:Interfaith Vigil for Peace in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:The suffering unfolding in the Holy Land today is unbearable. As people of many faith traditions\, we believe every human life is precious. We abhor all targeting of civilians. We do not believe violence and killing provides safety to anyone. We believe in a God of love and justice that shows a different path for humanity. We also believe that interfaith cooperation is an important part of building a path to peace. \nWe invite the whole Davis community to gather to remember and pray for the thousands of innocent people\, particularly children\, who have lost their lives in Israel and Palestine. We call for peace\, for a ceasefire\, and for the US government to make all possible efforts to pursue a just and lasting peace in the region. \n  \n
