SUMMARY:Weave a Willow Bird Feeder
DESCRIPTION:Willow is a wonderful\, abundant riparian resource well-suited to weaving\, thanks to the strength and flexibility of its stems. In this workshop led by Natascha Paxton participants will learn a simple spiral weave technique to craft a small bird feeder out of ‘Sandbar Willow.’ Participants will also learn how to make their own vegan\, peanut-free bird seed balls to fill their feeders and support local birds. \nThis is a gentle\, beginner-friendly introduction to working with willow and an approachable first weaving project. If you are interested in working further with willow and advancing your weaving skills\, check out our upcoming Willow Basketry workshop with Samantha Iacobello! \nAll tools and materials will be provided. This workshop requires hand strength\, the ability to do repetitive hand movements\, and comfort sitting on the ground for extended periods of time. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring a cushion or low lawn chair for seating. You are welcome to bring your favorite utility or pocket knife and a set of pruning shears if you have either. \nAge 12+. \n

SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout reception: Jerri Chamberlain
DESCRIPTION:Blossoms To Remember\nJerri Chamberlain\nwatercolor\nApril 1 to April 25\n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: April 10\, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.\nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \n“My work transforms the relatively short life of a bloom into a lasting narrative of memory. As a child I gathered wildflowers and imagined their petals as silken ball gowns\, and that sense of play informs how I approach my artwork. I don’t just paint flowers; I paint the memories they evoke. I am drawn to the fleeting magical beauty of blooms. The transparency and fluidity of watercolor makes it ideal for capturing the subtle gradients of petals\, leaves and stems\, and it is these qualities that create the aura for organic and vibrant florals. Through this series of floral paintings I want to share the beauty of flowers\, and my fond memories of them\, with others.” \nAfter moving to Davis in 1974 Jerri Chamberlain dedicated her career to education by serving as a para-educator teaching reading. After she retired she painted with watercolors and oils as a creative outlet in order to maintain an active\, inquisitive mind. Her pieces have been shown at the Pence Gallery\, The Paint Chip\, and the annual Art Farm Gala. Jerri continues to explore the intersection of memory\, nature\, and lifelong learning via her artistic endeavors. \nMeet Jerri Chamberlain at her 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on April 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. \nPublic receptions for local artists will also be held at various venues on that same evening in conjunction with the Davis Downtown 2nd Friday ArtAbout.
