Bringing mindfulness and awareness into everyday life\, we cultivate the confidence to engage with difficult situations without becoming overwhelmed\, reactive\, or discouraged. \nThis weekend retreat draws upon the strength and insight we develop through meditation practice. Together\, we will explore how to stay present amid uncertainty\, listen deeply across differences\, and respond to the complexities of our time with wisdom and kindness. As we learn to trust our innate wakefulness\, we discover that genuine courage is not about certainty or control\, but about remaining open\, compassionate\, and fully engaged with the world as it is. \nThrough meditation\, discussion\, and contemplative practices\, participants will deepen their connection to their own inherent goodness and explore how that understanding can support meaningful relationships\, community engagement\, and skillful action in challenging times. \nThis weekend includes:\n• Guided meditation instruction and practice\n• Teachings on mindful engagement and wakefulness in everyday life\n• Exploration of courage\, compassion\, and confidence\n• Group discussion and shared inquiry\n• Opportunities to connect contemplative practice with contemporary social challenges\n• Light breakfast on Saturday and Sunday\, and lunch on Saturday \nLed by: Elvia Garcia. Elvia is a Shambhala meditation instructor and has been a member of the Davis Shambhala Center community since 2008. She has held several leadership positions in this community\, including Head of Protection\, Program Coordination\, and Center Director. Elvia is active in the larger community as a conflict resolution teacher and coach\, mediator\, and restorative justice facilitator. DESCRIPTION:Ceremony for Personal Transformation: The Medicine Wheel A participatory workshop led by Sylvia Rios \nJoin elder and wisdom keeper Sylvia Rios for an immersive 90-minute ceremony exploring one of the most enduring symbols in Indigenous tradition: the Medicine Wheel. A circle with no beginning and no end\, the Medicine Wheel is a sacred map — of the seasons\, the elements\, the spirit animals\, and the cycles of our own lives. \nParticipants will gather in a circle as Sylvia teaches the community to co-create a living Medicine Wheel Earth Altar using medicinal plants\, stones\, and earth elements\, oriented to the four cardinal directions and their associated colors\, seasons\, and spirit animals: the Hummingbird\, Eagle/Condor\, Great Serpent\, and Mother Jaguar. Through platicas (guided talk)\, journaling prompts\, and a closing meditation\, participants are invited to examine where they stand in their own life’s cycle — in growth\, creativity\, relationships\, and spirit — and to ask: Who am I? Where do I come from?
