DESCRIPTION:This is the official launch weekend of Great Bear Vineyard’s natural wine\, “Black Bicycle Farm’s Carbo Cab”! Your ticket includes: \n\nTaste of 3 wines: our natural wine as well as two of our regular wines – a Chardonnay & a Red Blend\nA glass of your preferred wine\nA small sample of vegan meats from “Better Meat”\n\nYou can also purchase our vegan cheese box separately at $25 suitable for 1-2 people\n\n\n\nTo make our natural wine “Black Bicycle Farm’s Carbo Cab”\, the grapes were harvested from our vineyard in transition to organic production. The wine started fermenting with the wild yeasts naturally occurring on the grapes in the vineyard and a process of carbonic maceration of the whole grape clusters. The wine is unfiltered (so you will find a sediment in the bottle). This is a beautiful tart wine with flavors of candied strawberry and cherry. \nWe will also give you a taste of two of Great Bear Vineyards favorites: our Chardonnay and our Red Blend\, The Duet. After the 3 wine tastes\, we will pour you a full glass of your favorite wine. Note: Carbo Cab is vegetarian and Chardonnay & The Duet are vegan wines. \nAt this tasting\, our Natural Wine will be paired with a sampler of vegan “Better Meat”. Vegan “Better Meat” is not meat at all; it is fermented mycoprotein made by Better Meat Company of Sacramento. It is made from rhiza – a whole food\, complete protein ingredient that’s versatile\, allergen-free\, neutral in taste\, has the texture of meat\, and tastes like meat. Quite delicious! \nMUSIC \nThis afternoon we are honored to have Katalysst join us to provide live music. Katalysst is a progressive folk rock duo that smoothly fuses both simplicity and complexity through thoughtful chord progressions and dynamic bass lines.

DESCRIPTION:Latina Immigrants’ Stories Through Flamenco \nA Stage Adaptation of an Award Winning Film: Mark Me \nA multidisciplinary experience for the senses\, with a unique culinary experience led by Chef Erica Marie\, a world-renowned cast of international flamenco artists\, and a fully immersive interactive art installation on stage. The Royal School of Ballet’s Majesty Ballet Company will be opening the show as our special guests of this premiere\, with a unique collaborative piece created by both Angela Arteritano and Cassandra Kamakeeaina. \nOnly General Admission Balcony Available. Doors open at 6:30p.  \nMARKME ON STAGE Is a live music\, art\, and dance production exploring the concepts of freedom\, acceptance\, and belonging as it relates to the Latina Identity within a Contemporary Flamenco setting. The work exemplifies a process of reawakening of the Latinx roots through an interdisciplinary choreographic process. Expanding upon the possibilities of the intersection of art and performance the work’s environment evolves through the active transformation of an immersive art installation\, generating meaning and consolidating form through performance. Furthermore\, the transformation of this artwork is driven by a process of restoration of a relationship to Flamenco that is inclusive of our unique perspective as Latinas in exile. Acknowledging the reference of Venezuelan master artists like Soto and Cruz-Diez whose work has set a precedent for the Artistic legacy of our people and understanding the value that these works have instilled in our migrant communities of Venezuelans across the world; The work has taken on a contemporary revival approach to the interpretation of Venezuelan Art to encapsulate an emergent legacy that has been forced to exile. The materials and design of the installation were inspired by Venezuelan artisan techniques and traditional artisan elements of Flamenco Dance\, creating an opportunity to reconnect to the materials from a primitive state\, while presenting an innovative way to interpret Tradition. The project ultimately promotes a discourse that situates Venezuelan artists in exile as contributors to a legacy that has been forever displaced\, physically\, and psychologically; while simultaneously bringing attention to concepts like freedom\, acceptance\, and belonging as it pertains to Latinas in the context of Flamenco Art. \nThe first phase of the project consisted of a three-layered gallery exhibition\, including a dance film\, a performance art installation\, and a collection of paintings. The dance film which continues its festival runs around the world has already received incredible recognitions\, like the award for best director at Vesuvius International Film Festival 2022\, Honorable Mention at The London International Monthly Film Festival\, Semi-Finalist for Best Women Empowerment Short at the Paris International Short Festival 2022\, Finalist for best of fest at Mignolo International Screendance Festival 2022\, and Best Experimental Short at Ag&Art Film Festival 2022.

Thalia Hohenthal and Rebecca Kuehn from Guittard Chocolate Company will join Gus Zhu\, the first Chinese national Master of Wine\, as they guide attendees to find their preferred pairings. \nRegistration is $25\, with limited seating. Includes reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres immediately following. \nAdditionally\, award-winning olive oil and single-variety honey products will be available for purchase from the UC Davis Olive Center and UC Davis Honey and Pollination Center and directly support the centers. Cash and check payments only. \n\nSpeakers:\n\nThalia Hohenthal is the Technical Service Manager for Guittard Chocolate Company\, having served for decades as the Senior Scientist of Research and Development. She is a graduate of UC Davis in Food Biochemistry. Thalia has dedicated almost 45 years to the science of chocolate. Thalia invents new technologies behind the scenes\, contributing to the creation of new products. She finds joy in mentoring others to solve new and old problems. She has taught countless businesses how to make chocolate work for them. Thalia has been honored to be an instructor in the industry since 1986\, was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in 2016\, and now serves on the Leadership Board at UC Davis for the Department of Food Science. She loves fine chocolate and believes it can solve any problem in the world. \n\nRebecca Kuehn is the R&D Director at Guittard Chocolate Company\, where she is responsible for realizing innovations and managing technical projects in chocolate products and processing. With over ten years in the chocolate industry\, she has led and contributed to new product launches\, product and process improvements\, and production line startups\, both domestically and internationally. Introduced to the industry as part of the PMCA Student Outreach Program and while researching chocolate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, Rebecca continued on\, earning her M.S. in Food Science & Technology from UC Davis\, where her studies contributed to fundamentals of chocolate bloom and oil migration through support from PMCA’s Research Grant. Now PMCA’s West Region Chair and a member of the Board of Directors\, Rebecca is engaged in building the industry’s future and bringing people and organizations together. \n\nGus Zhu is the first Chinese national Master of Wine. He is a research and development scientist of Harv 81 Group\, responsible for quality control and haloanisole testings of natural cork products of Cork Supply USA (corksupply.com/us) as well as sensory research on Creative Oak (creativeoak.com) at Tonnellerie Ô (tonnellerieo.com). He entered the wine world as a wine educator under the guidance of Fongyee Walker MW and Edward Ragg MW\, the founders of Dragon Phoenix Wine Consulting. In 2017\, he graduated with a Master of Science degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis. Gus’ commitment to the academic field of wine is evidenced by his MW dissertation about the sensory science of wine; and by co-authoring a review paper on red wine pigment with Dr. Andrew Waterhouse. \nAbout:\nThis event is part of the Sips and Bites series\, which explores the stories behind foods and drinks with winemakers\, brewers\, and culinary innovators with tastings and conversations about what inspires them to make their wines\, beers\, and foods. \nVenue & Parking:\nThis event will be in-person in the Silverado Vineyards Sensory Theater at the Robert Mondavi Institute\, Sensory Building. DESCRIPTION:After a year hiatus\, the crab feed is back!  The Kiwanis Club of Davis’ Crab Feed is a 40-year tradition that has raised thousands of dollars for the benefit of local charities\, thanks in no small part to sponsors such as yourself. With your help\, we have been able to assist local community organizations such as Davis Community Meals\, STEAC\, Kiwanis Family House\, Communicare\, the Elderly Nutrition Program and many others.  We have also recently become a major sponsor for NorCal Trykers which donates specially made tricycles for handicapped kids. \nOur 41st Annual Crab Feed will be held on Friday evening\, February 10\, 2023 at the Veterans Memorial Center in Davis. We have a festive evening planned that includes a raffle and silent auction.
