SUMMARY:Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! Holiday Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! concert series is having a special show on December 1st.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will be celebrating the holiday season and our 100th show! The Davis Odd Fellows Hall is located at 415 2nd Street in downtown Davis. The show is donation only with all donations benefiting the many programs the Odd Fellows contribute to throughout the year. Doors open at 7 PM and the music starts at 7:30 PM. \nOur first show was November 2009 and until the pandemic shut us down in April 2020 we presented music the first Thursday of most months. Our lodge hall had just been renovated and we were looking for ways to show it off. Kurt Roggli\, a member of Odd Fellows and local musician\, proposed the idea of a monthly\, donation only\, concert series with all donations going to the musicians. Our aim was to have our shows be affordable enough for everyone in our community to be able to hear music in a beautiful space\, showcase all of the wonderful musicians in our area\, see old friends and make new ones\, and find out about the great work Odd Fellows does. \nThirteen years and a pandemic later\, we’re back and still going strong and hope to continue for at least another 100 shows. Juelie Roggli\, MC of Thursday Live! said\, “It’s the Davis community who come out every month and donate so generously that has kept us going and the musicians wanting to come play at the Hall again.” \nOur December 1st show will be a “Spirit of the Season” show. We’re lucky to have some of Davis’ finest musicians join us. We’ll have 5 groups each play a few winter or holiday songs. Joining us will be: According to Bazooka\, Biscuits & Honey\, Me & Him\, The Muddy Waders\, and Keith Adolfo Campos. \nThursday Live! is sponsored by the Davis Odd Fellows Music and Concert Committee with the support of KDRT radio and Jim Buchanan. If you’d like to sign up for our email list contact Juelie Roggli at juelrog@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\n\nDoors Open 7:00PM. Show at 7:30PM.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavis Odd Fellows Lodge\n415 2nd Street\, Davis\, CA 95616\nFREE SHOW – All donations to support the musicians.\nNo Host Bar

SUMMARY:Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! Maurice Tani
DESCRIPTION:Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! is a monthly music series happening the first Monday of each month. The series returns on February 2nd with Maurice Tani. \nThe Odd Fellows Hall is at 415 2nd St. in downtown Davis. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. Thursday Live! shows are free\, but donations are encouraged to support the musicians. \nWe are so proud and thankful for music lovers in our community who continue to keep live music with local musicians alive and thriving. The Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee is proud to be a part of that effort! \n \nSan Francisco’s Maurice Tani has been a fixture on the local alt-country scene for more than a decade with his band 77 El Deora\, and previously sang and played guitar for the seminal Motown-style party bands Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra and Big Bang Beat. The San Francisco Chronicle has praised his “twangy modern country sound” and called his songs “wry yet romantic\, tender but aggressive.” \nKnown for his agile guitar style and expressive singing\, Maurice Tani’s particular flavor of Americana is a broad-spectrum tincture of influences to cure the wide range of ills his fertile imagination conjures. While rooted (at times distantly) in country music\, his writing is centered on an urban-western perspective. Short musical narratives of life on the left coast. A sort of cinema for the blind. No one blends Americana\, Blues and Country quite like Tani. \n“I was blown away! Maurice Tani writes songs that sound at once familiar\, ethereal and beautiful. A songwriter’s songwriter with recurring themes of his own life experiences.” – Robert Sproul\, No Depression Magazine \nThursday Live! is sponsored by the Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee with support from KDRT radio. It’s a continuous music series that happens the first Thursday of most months. \nFor more information\, or to be put on the email list\, contact Juelie Roggli at juelrog@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Natural Wine Launch Paired with Vegan Meats
DESCRIPTION:This is the official launch weekend of Great Bear Vineyard’s natural wine\, “Black Bicycle Farm’s Carbo Cab”! Your ticket includes: \n\nTaste of 3 wines: our natural wine as well as two of our regular wines – a Chardonnay & a Red Blend\nA glass of your preferred wine\nA small sample of vegan meats from “Better Meat”\n\nYou can also purchase our vegan cheese box separately at $25 suitable for 1-2 people\n\n\n\nTo make our natural wine “Black Bicycle Farm’s Carbo Cab”\, the grapes were harvested from our vineyard in transition to organic production. The wine started fermenting with the wild yeasts naturally occurring on the grapes in the vineyard and a process of carbonic maceration of the whole grape clusters. The wine is unfiltered (so you will find a sediment in the bottle). This is a beautiful tart wine with flavors of candied strawberry and cherry. \nWe will also give you a taste of two of Great Bear Vineyards favorites: our Chardonnay and our Red Blend\, The Duet. After the 3 wine tastes\, we will pour you a full glass of your favorite wine. Note: Carbo Cab is vegetarian and Chardonnay & The Duet are vegan wines. \nAt this tasting\, our Natural Wine will be paired with a sampler of vegan “Better Meat”. Vegan “Better Meat” is not meat at all; it is fermented mycoprotein made by Better Meat Company of Sacramento. It is made from rhiza – a whole food\, complete protein ingredient that’s versatile\, allergen-free\, neutral in taste\, has the texture of meat\, and tastes like meat. Quite delicious! \nMUSIC \nThis afternoon we are honored to have Katalysst join us to provide live music. Katalysst is a progressive folk rock duo that smoothly fuses both simplicity and complexity through thoughtful chord progressions and dynamic bass lines.

SUMMARY:St. Olaf Choir
DESCRIPTION:The St. Olaf Choir resumes its robust touring tradition with an 11-city tour across the West Coast.\nThe internationally acclaimed St. Olaf Choir\, conducted by Dr. Anton Armstrong\,\nwill perform at Mondavi Center in Davis on Monday\, February 6 at 7:00 p.m. as part of its\n2023 national tour. \nThe St. Olaf Choir has set a gold standard for choral singing\, and the ensemble’s 75 singers\nand Armstrong will perform in 11 cities from Sunday\, January 29\, through Friday\, February\n10\, 2023\, presenting concerts in some of the nation’s finest churches and concert halls in a\nfour-state tour of Arizona\, California\, Oregon\, and Washington. \n“Hearing the St. Olaf Choir in concert is more than just a musical experience\,” says Anton\nArmstrong. “Our singers\, performing at the highest artistic level\, convey a message of hope.\nOur music provides a bridge to what can unite us at a time when the world is so divided. We\noften hear from concertgoers who tell us they are not only struck by the sound and uniformity\nof the St. Olaf Choir\, but also by the earnestness of what comes through the voices of our\nyoung singers. Our singers touch the hearts and souls of listeners\, and our audiences leave\ntransformed.” \nTickets are available for all tour concerts online at stolaf.edu/tickets. For the Davis\nperformance\, tickets range between $25-50 for adults\, and $10 for students of all ages. Tickets\ncan be found here for the Davis performance\, https://tickets.mondaviarts.org/7845/7846 \nThe 2022 National Tour marks Anton Armstrong’s 33 rd year as conductor of the St. Olaf Choir\,\nand is the fourth to lead the ensemble during its 111-year history. In addition to his role as a\nprofessor of music at St. Olaf College\, he is in demand in the international choral scene as a\nguest conductor and lecturer. Like his three predecessors\, Armstrong carries forward the\ninternational reputation of the St. Olaf Choir\, an ensemble that is rooted in St. Olaf College’s\ntradition of faith and commitment to a global perspective. \nThe choir’s musical selections for the tour reflect these values with a variety of both sacred\nand secular works. The program will include pieces by living and traditional composers\nincluding Eric Whitacre\, Rosephanye Powell\, Kim André Arnesen\, Moses G. Hogan Jr.\, and the\nchoir’s founder: F. Melius Christiansen. \n  \n  \nAbout the St. Olaf Choir\nSt. Olaf Choir • 2022 National Winter Tour \nThe St. Olaf Choir was founded in 1912 by F. Melius Christiansen\, whose work established the\nensemble’s standard of excellence and its tradition of bringing music to audiences outside of\ncampus. Christiansen chose spiritually profound music and pushed student musicians to\nperfect a tone that was disciplined\, controlled\, and free of excessive vibrato. That sound —\nsecurely in tune\, controlled in pitch\, smooth in delivery — became the choir’s hallmark. For\nmore than a century\, under the leadership of succeeding conductors Olaf\nC. Christiansen\, Kenneth Jennings\, and Anton Armstrong\, the St. Olaf Choir has set the gold\nstandard for choral singing\, performing for millions around the world.\nWhen Armstrong took the helm in 1990\, his vast knowledge of music and his ability to\narticulate a vision to singers and audiences alike took the St. Olaf Choir to the next level\,\nadding more flavor to its signature sound and further expanding its repertoire to include\nmusic of the Pacific Rim\, Africa\, and Latin America. Under Armstrong’s leadership\, the choir\ncontinues to expand its touring horizons\, engaging capacity audiences in major concert halls\nthroughout the United States and worldwide. The ensemble has toured internationally fifteen\ntimes. \nStay up to date with the choir on Facebook and Instagram. For more info visit:\nstolafchoir.com.

SUMMARY:Pink Martini featuring China Forbes
DESCRIPTION:Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world—crossing genres of classical\, jazz and old-fashioned pop—Thomas Lauderdale founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in his hometown of Portland\, Oregon in 1994. One year later\, Lauderdale called China Forbes\, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City\, and asked her to join Pink Martini. They began to write songs together. Their first song “Sympathique (Je ne veux pas travailler)”became an overnight sensation in France\, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards\, and to this day remains a mantra (“Je ne veux pas travailler” or “I don’t want to work”) for striking French workers. Says Lauderdale\, “We’re very much an American band\, but we spend a lot of time abroad and therefore have the incredible diplomatic opportunity to represent a broader\, more inclusive America… the America which remains the most heterogeneously populated country in the world… composed of people of every country\, every language\, every religion.

SUMMARY:Becca Stevens
DESCRIPTION:Becca Stevens\nMondavi Center Presenting Program\nBecca Stevens stretches the boundaries of convention with songs that weave together her classical and Appalachian folk music upbringing and her love of the rich rhythms and harmonies of jazz and world music\, enhanced by her skill on multiple string instruments. \nThe North Carolina native and Brooklyn transplant straddles those two worlds\, with music that moves in unpredictably fascinating directions. Smart lyrics and funky beats topped with her remarkable vocal gifts are hallmarks of her most recent album\, Wonderbloom\, a record that Jazz Magazine  described as “sophisticated and sensual pop” and  The Mail on Sunday as “Glamorous… semi-electric pop Prince might approve of.”

SUMMARY:Alfredo Rodríguez & Pedrito Martinez
DESCRIPTION:Mondavi Center Presenting Program\n\n\n\n\n\nGrammy-nominated artists Alfredo Rodríguez and Pedrito Martinez first worked together on Rodríguez’s 2012 release Invasion Parade. Since that initial recording session\, they have had the rare occasion to perform together as a duo\, leaving audiences completely mesmerized by their fearless and virtuosic playing. Each artist brings a different approach to the collaboration. Rodríguez was schooled in the rigorous classical conservatories of Havana\, and his piano playing is informed as much by Bach and Stravinsky as it is by his Afro Cuban and jazz roots. Percussionist Martinez’s musical training came directly from the streets of the Cayo Hueso neighborhood of Old Havana in which he was raised.
