SUMMARY:Ranky Tanky with Dom Flemons
DESCRIPTION:Mondavi Center Presenting Program \nRanky Tanky (a Gullah phrase for “get funky”) are five lifelong friends from Charleston\, South Carolina who have established themselves as passionate global ambassadors for their local Gullah culture and community. Their deeply grooving music helps to faithfully preserve the traditions originated by African Americans in the coastal South during slavery that are kept alive through the present day. The band’s second album\, Good Time\, won a Grammy for Best Regional Roots Album. They are joined on this Mondavi Center debut by fellow Grammy-winner\, multi-instrumentalist\, former Carolina Chocolate Drop and “American Songster” Dom Flemons. \n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/_wqRDzO-Lec\nhttps://youtu.be/qVJVOmMBNug

SUMMARY:Alexander String Quartet with Robert Greenberg
DESCRIPTION:Dec. 4\, 2022 \nTerzetto in C Major\, Op. 74 for two violins and viola\nPiano Quintet No. 2 in A Major\, Op. 81 \nJan. 15\, 2023 \nString Quartet No. 12 in F Major Op. 96 “American”\nString Quintet in E Major\, Op. 97 \nApril 2\, 2023 \nString Quartet No. 13 in G Major\, Op. 106\nString Quartet No. 14 in A-flat Major\, Op. 105 \nA major artistic presence in its home base of San Francisco\, the Alexander String Quartet is equally beloved in its second home: the Mondavi Center. This year\, the quartet appears with violist David Samuel—joining cellist Sandy Wilson and violinists Fred Lifsitz and Zakarias Grafilo. \nAll Alexander String Quartet performances will take place in Jackson Hall and will feature Robert Greenberg’s lecture on each piece followed by a full performance of the same piece. \nPurchase your tickets for the event here: [https://tickets.mondaviarts.org/7564]\nRobert Greenberg\nGreenberg has performed\, taught\, and lectured extensively across North America and Europe. He is currently music historian-in-residence with San Francisco Performances\, where he has lectured and performed since 1994. \nThe Chamber Music of Antonin Dvořák\nNo nineteenth-century composer wrote chamber music more joyful\, more melodically brilliant\, more accessible\, and more compositionally sound than did the Bohemian-born-and-bred Antonin Dvořák (1841–1904). Protégé of Johannes Brahms; father of nine children (all with his first and only wife); and beloved teacher\, conductor\, violinist\, and pianist\, Dvořák was perhaps\, along with Joseph Haydn\, the nicest\, kindest\, least neurotic person ever to become a major composer. Like Haydn\, Dvořák created a body of musical work remarkable for its straightforward expressive content\, humor\, humanity\, grace\, and technical polish.

SUMMARY:Thursday Live!
DESCRIPTION:On April 6th the Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! concert series present the Grateful Bluegrass Boys. \nDoors for the show open at 7 PM and the show starts at 7:30 PM. Thursday Live! is a monthly concert series. Our shows are donation only with all money going to the musicians. \nGrateful Bluegrass Boys are an acoustic string band from the Santa Cruz/SF Bay Area. \nTheir primary mission is to get the audience to sing and dance along to beloved songs one might…or might not expect from a string band. Their first CD includes songs by Paul Simon\, Willie Nelson\, Led Zeppelin\, Johnny Nash\, The Eagles\, and the Grateful Dead. \nWhile the name of the band references the Grateful Dead\, gratitude is at the core of the band. They feel incredibly fortunate to play music for people all over the country and keep their set lists fresh and diverse. \nThe band also has a healthy respect for traditional Bluegrass and one can expect fiddle tunes and raucous Bluegrass songs. \nThe band has shared the stage with Bob Weir\, Phil Lesh\, Lukas Nelson\, Bill Nershi\, and many more incredible musicians. \nAaron Rednor picked up the violin when he was 10 years old and earned a Master’s degree in classical violin and performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. He got hooked on Bluegrass music after going to festivals. After returning to California\, he joined the band Hot Buttered Rum which became the focal point of Aaron’s life for the next 13 years. He played violin\, mandolin\, and became one of the songwriters of the band.  \nSean Lehe is a Northern California based guitarist. Over the past two decades he has played lead guitar for bands such as Izabella\, Poor Man’s Whiskey and Jelly Bread. More recently he can be seen performing with his electric 5-piece rock band Birds Of Fortune\, as well as The Grateful Bluegrass Boys \nScotty Brown is an electric and upright bass player. Growing up with an eclectic taste in music\, he started playing bass at age 17 inspired by influential icons such as: Phil Lesh\, Barry Oakley\, Paul McCartney\, and Jack Bruce. Through years Scotty began to develop a deep love and appreciation for bluegrass music. He currently plays in the Dusty Green Bones Band. \nIsaac Cantor has dedicated himself to mastery of the 5-string banjo.  After picking up the instrument 16 years ago there was no looking back. After being offered his first gig in California 10 years ago\, Isaac decided to stay.  Since then\, he has been a fixture in the Northern California bluegrass/Jam scene\, helping to start several bands and contributing his banjo playing to studio recordings and other projects along the west coast. \nFor more information about Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! or to be added to our email list\, email Juelie Roggli at juelrog@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Mondavi Center Presenting Program\n\n\n\nThursday\, April 6\, 2023 – 7:30pm\nFriday\, April 7\, 2023 – 7:30pm\nSaturday\, April 8\, 2023 – 7:30pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSammy Miller and The Congregation are on a mission\, crisscrossing the country like a vaudevillian revival show with evangelic fervor for music. The seven-piece band\, described as a mashup of Ben Folds Five and Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, is putting people in the moment with a bracing dose of joyful jazz performed with infectious theatricality. The New York City-based\, familial collective has captured its frenetic energy and unflinchingly optimistic songwriting on its debut album\, Leaving Egypt. “We want to get people back in a room together\,” Sammy Miller says. “I love the idea of being unhinged\, sincere\, vulnerable\, and breaking down walls through humor. Music is an uplifting gift\, and I want to be generous in sharing it with people.” \n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Website: http://www.sammymillercongregation.com\n\n\n\nSammy Miller and The Congregation: https://youtu.be/iq7jnRMQh8U\n\n\nThe dates of this event have changed. The old saying is “the third time is the charm” but audience members will be hard-pressed to pick a favorite among Feltsman’s trinity of performances.

SUMMARY:Kyle Ledson: Broken Compass Bluegrass LIVE at Ruhstaller Hop Farm
DESCRIPTION:Broken Compass Bluegrass returns to the Ruhstaller Hop Farm for a hopping night of fresh bluegrass & beyond. If you haven’t scene the BCB crew picking at Ruhstaller\, you’ve been missing out. Lock this one into your calendar and see why Broken Compass Bluegrass has become one of the fresh forces in the Northern California music scene today. \nFree Show! \nAll ages welcomed! \nEver since he picked up a fiddle at the age of three years old\, Kyle Ledson has drenched himself in music\, taking influences of bluegrass & The Grateful Dead to create his own original music for a more modern “Jamgrass” scene. \nHis first album release\, “Crooked Mandolin\,” saw him collaborating with childhood heroes like Hot Buttered Rum\, the T Sisters\, and the incredibly talented Molly Tuttle when he was just 14 years old. Kyle’s sophomore album\, “Left It All Behind\,” was released in 2021 when he was 18 years old. The stellar record of mostly original tunes featured members Yonder Mountain String Band\, ALO\, & Hot Buttered Rum. \n“This 18 year old man is an extraordinary talent in the world of bluegrass/Americana. His skills on mandolin and flatpicking guitar are rare. His songwriting abilities make him the total package. He’s only 18\, but he has the sort of skills many can’t achieve over the course of a lifetime.”
