DESCRIPTION:On March 7th\, Davis Odd Fellows Thursday Live! concert series welcomes Fellow Pynins. \nThe Odd Fellows Hall is located at 415 2nd St. in downtown Davis. \nDoors open at 7PM and the music starts at 7:30PM. Donations for the musicians are greatly appreciated. \nFellow Pynins is an Ashland\, Oregon based award winning contemporary folk duo with a keen and bucolic sense of vocal harmony and song craft anchored in the balladry tradition. The duo consists of Dani Aubert (claw-hammer banjo\, bouzouki) and Ian George (guitar\, mandolin). \nSince 2016 the duo has toured the US and has gathered significant traction in the UK/Ireland\, gracing festivals such as Cambridge Folk Festival\, Wilderness Festival\, Omagh Bluegrass Festival\, and selling out legs of their most recent UK/Ireland tour. \nIn 2019 they were named by NPR’s Bob Boilen as one of the best Tiny Desk submissions and the same year won the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time duet competition. \nAlex Gallacher\, Folk Radio UK says\, “There is a great beauty in both their timing and the subtle flourishes of their arrangements that ebb and flow perfectly. They sound at one with the song. DESCRIPTION:Alexandra Roedder\, cellist\, will play Bach Suites on a 1743 baroque cello. \nCellist Alexandra Roedder holds degrees in music from UC Berkeley\, baroque cello from the Royal Conservatory of the Hague\, as well as her doctorate in musicology and her master’s in cello performance from UCLA. She currently performs regularly with the Sacramento Baroque Soloists\, InConcert Sierra\, Camerata California\, the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra\, the Sacramento Philharmonic\, and many other local orchestras. In recent years she has been a soloist with Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra\, the Auburn Symphony\, and the Folsom Lake Symphony. Dr. Roedder also holds the position of Principal Cellist with both the Auburn and Folsom Lake Symphonies\, and maintains a large teaching studio with students aged 5 to 85. \n

SUMMARY:Alma Russ Band Live
DESCRIPTION:Alma (say it like “Alamo”) lives in Whittier\, NC when she’s not on the road. She plays patchwork music: country\, folk\, and Appalachian roots sewn together to make something unique. Songwriting is cheaper than therapy\, and old songs make her happy.\nShe fell in love with Appalachian culture and music as a child\, started learning historic Scotch-Irish murder ballads\, and took up fiddle at 12. Banjo and guitar followed\, and then she made friends with a hobo who taught her to write songs\, so that’s what she keeps doing. Music has taken her lots of places\, from the hometown bars\, to church\, to the highway. She spent a while performing as an entertainer on the passenger train in Bryson City\, NC\, and once she wound up getting 3 yeses from ABC’s American Idol Judges on Season 1 and being sent to Hollywood\, CA. She recently recorded a critically acclaimed album in an abandoned church in the West Texas desert.\nHer influences include John Prine\, Townes Van Zandt\, Emmylou Harris\, Lucinda Williams\, Dolly Parton\, among others.\nMusic continues to give her stories to tell\, and these days she lives on the road for months at a time\, playing her songs for whoever will listen. It’s her favorite thing to do and she’s thankful to be here!\n

The Capitol Pops from Sacramento will finish out the evening with some wonderful selections\, including Symphonic Dance No. 3 “Fiesta” by Clifton Williams and 4 Symphonic Themes by John Williams. DESCRIPTION:The Folk Music Jam Session at Wyatt Deck is back! After a hiatus due to Covid and the complete reconstruction of the event location\, folk musicians are once again invited to bring their acoustic instruments and play together informally during this jam session at Wyatt Deck (located next to the redwood grove in the UC Davis Arboretum). \nPull out your fiddles\, guitars\, mandolins\, penny whistles\, pipes\, flutes\, squeezeboxes—you name it!—and join your fellow musicians for a little bluegrass\, old-time\, blues\, Celtic\, klezmer\, and world music over the lunch hour. All skill levels welcome and listeners are invited. Takes place Fridays from 12–1p. \nShort-term parking is available in Visitor Lot 5 on Old Davis Road at Arboretum Drive. Hourly rates start at $1.75.

DESCRIPTION:International recording artist Mark Wood\, an original member of the multi platinum selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra and creator of the revolutionary music education program “Electrify Your Strings!” is coming to Davis to perform at the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall at Davis Senior High. Mark will be performing with orchestra and choir students from across the entire DJUSD Music Program in a full articulation presentation from Elementary\, Junior High\, through the senior Senior High. To prepare for this concert\, in class daily\, students have been studying a collection of rock tunes arranged and or composed by Mark Wood. Upon Mark’s arrival\, he will be coaching them on improvisation\, compositional techniques\, and personal expression with their voice and instruments. This do not miss exciting event will inspire and transform our music students into full-fledged ROCK STARS!\nTwo concerts the same evening\, one at 6 p.m. the second at 8 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:With an extensive and amazing track record of unique and imaginative performances featuring his curious instrument and copious amounts of originality\, Mike Silverman\, aka That1Guy\, has set himself apart as a true one-of-a-kind talent that rivals any other artist currently in the entertainment industry. Averaging 150-200 shows a year all over North America and Canada\, he has been a consistent favorite at such festivals as: Wakarusa\, Electric Forest\, Big Day out\, All Good Music Festival\, Bella\, High Sierra Music Festival\, Summer Meltdown\, Montreal Jazz Festival\, and many more.  His legendary collaboration and multiple tours with Buckethead performing as The Frankenstein Brothers have further cemented his virtuoso story as a creative visionary.\nSilverman’s back-story is similar to many musicians that have come before him. He grew up a self-proclaimed music geek\, soaked in the influence of his jazz musician father\, and enrolled in San Francisco Conservatory of Music before joining the local jazz scene himself as a sought-after percussive bassist.
