DESCRIPTION:On Dec. 4th we welcome you to join us at the UC Davis Wyatt Pavilion for the performance Climate by the ClimateMusic Project. Climate is an original composition by Erik Ian Walker\, in collaboration with The ClimateMusic Project. It tracks historical and projected variations in the climate system over 450 years\, from 1800-2250. \nThe ClimateMusic Project educates\, inspires\, and motivates diverse audiences to engage actively on climate change by creating and performing science-guided music and visual experiences to viscerally convey the urgency of taking action. Through music\, we make climate science personal and drive action. \nTheir mission is to generate conversations about the climate crisis and solutions\, and to motivate action in the audience members. Solutions to climate change exist; the challenge is to create the individual and collective will to take action. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Video Game Orchestra at UC Davis was founded in 2017 with the goal of allowing college musicians to explore the wonders of video game music. What started out as a small group of 9 musicians has now grown into a community of more than 100 members! All of our members are current students or alumni of UC Davis\, and all of our pieces are arranged by our own members. Each quarter\, we select a theme for our concert that explores a genre of video games\, allowing us to cover a diverse array of games throughout the year. In past concerts\, we have played pieces from games such as Final Fantasy XVI\, Genshin Impact\, Hollow Knight\, Pokémon\, and more. \nJoin us on Saturday\, December 7th at 6:00 PM as we go “Through the Ages” to experience the eras of history through video game music\, including pieces from beloved games such as Cuphead\, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag\, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI\, and more! \nEveryone is welcome! \n

DESCRIPTION:For more than two decades\, Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble’s annual Wintersongs concerts have explored songs from across Eastern Europe that summon the return of light and hope in times of difficulty and darkness. \nFollowing on the heels of the group’s first international tour in more than a decade\, this year’s Wintersongs concerts will share a bounty of music gathered from across the Republic of Georgia\, as well as songs from Balkan\, Baltic\, Mediterranean and Slavic lands. \nKitka’s 2024 Wintersongs offering follows the dramatic arc of the supra\, a traditional Georgian ritual feast in which all present are encouraged to contemplate the things in life that uplift and connect us. \nInspired by traditional songs and vocal techniques from Eastern Europe and Eurasia\, Kitka has earned international recognition for its distinctive sound\, exploring a vast palette of ancient yet contemporary-sounding vocal effects. Kitka’s commitment to presenting traditional song as a living and evolving expressive art form has led to adventurous collaborations with some of the world’s most exciting indigenous musicians and contemporary composers ranging from Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares to Meredith Monk. \nCurrently celebrating its 45th season\, Kitka began as a grassroots group of amateur singers from diverse ethnic and musical backgrounds who shared a passion for the stunning dissonances\, asymmetric rhythms\, intricate ornamentation\, and resonant strength of traditional Eastern European women’s vocal music. Since its informal beginnings\, the group has evolved into an award-winning touring ensemble known for its artistry\, versatility and mastery of the demanding techniques of regional vocal styling\, as well as for its innovative explorations in new music for women’s voices. The ensemble’s wide-ranging performance\, teaching and recording activities have exposed millions to the haunting beauty of their unique repertoire.

DESCRIPTION:The Davis Odd Fellows New Years Eve with Mumbo Gumbo Party is back this year! This party is for people 21 & older. \nTickets are $60 each and are on sale now on Eventbrite or through the Davis Odd Fellows (davislodge.org) website. This party has sold out every year and this year we’re limiting the number of tickets sold\, so buy your tickets early. If we sell out there will no tickets sold at the door. \nDance the new year in with the Soul\, Zydeco\, Cajun\, Caribbean stew that is Mumbo Gumbo. Your ticket includes: Appetizers served all evening\, desserts & coffee/tea\, champagne toast at midnight\, and party favors.
