DESCRIPTION:About BlackBox Ensemble\nNamed as “ambitious” by TimeOut and The New Yorker\, the NYC-based BlackBox Ensemble is a collective of contemporary music performers dedicated to exploring the wide-ranging world of the music of our time. Their 2025–26 season includes a return to The Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art\, debuts at National Sawdust and Bowerbird\, and residencies at Penn State\, George Washington University\, UC Davis\, San Francisco State University\, Williams College and a year-long appointment as Ensemble in Residence with University of Richmond\, and more. \nTheir name\, BlackBox\, comes from the many meanings the term holds. In theatre\, a black box is a bare\, flexible space — four dark walls that can transform into anything\, creating an environment ripe for bold experimentation and intimate connection. In science and technology\, a black box is a system with known inputs and outputs\, but the mystery of what happens inside makes it compelling. For us\, we believe music\, as a cultural medium\, lives in that same space — enacting an ambiguous but vital relationship between artistic expression and social life\, where sound\, expression\, and human experience collide in ways that can’t always be explained\, but always resonate. Guided by the spirit of the theatrical black box\, we create programs that invite risk\, innovation\, and connection\, presenting contemporary classical music in ways that feel fresh\, human\, and alive. \nTheir 2024–25 season included concerts at home in New York and around the country\, including a thrilling run of our Speculative Listening program at Bang On A Can Long Play Festival\, The Whitney Museum\, and Chatham PS21 curated by Eastman scholar Isaac Jean-François\, as well as performances at Southern Exposure Series at the University of South Carolina\, Timucua Arts Foundation\, and residencies at the University of Chicago\, University of Florida\, and University of Central Florida. \nTheir 2023–24 season included touring engagements in Washington\, DC\, Florida\, Michigan\, and throughout the Northeast as well as residencies at University of Florida\, University of Michigan\, NYU\, and the Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School. The season opened with The Sound of Space Between Us\, a site-specific\, outdoor music and dance performance at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown\, Massachusetts conceived by our flutist Annie Nikunen. We also presented the live premiere of Borrowed Landscape\, a radio play by German playwright duo tauchgold with music by Dai Fujikura\, at the Noguchi Museum\, in a program that also features music by Anna Thorvaldsdottir\, inti figgis-vizueta\, and Toru Takemistu. We reprised our performance of Borrowed Landscape at the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art as part of a two-concert series. In addition\, we celebrated our 5-year anniversary with our inaugural BlackBox Festival\, including our debut at Roulette Intermedium.

SUMMARY:Emery Villains Live @ The Melon Ball
DESCRIPTION:Emery Villains formed in 2019 by Scott Holderby (lead vocals and guitar) with Rhoda Jean Steen (vocals and guitar). The Carolina Drifters from the 50’s\, featuring Rhoda and her brothers Paul and Clarence were the backup band for the Black Jack Wayne Show on channel 2\, backing Johnny Cash\, Buck Owens and others. Rhoda Jean Steen’s presence serves as a direct link to the roots of rockabilly and the Carolina Drifters’ contributions to the genre. Her participation with Emery Villains is a beautiful blend of past and present\, ensuring the music’s legacy continues. \nScott looked over to his guitar player Danny White (vocals and lead guitar) from Mordred to do the finger picking. Scott then turned to a high school friend\, Hank Alva (vocals and upright bass) to round out the groove of the tunes. \nThat’s absolutely right! Emery Villains is a great example of a modern band keeping the rockabilly sound alive and fresh for a new generation of fans. They’re part of a newer wave of rockabilly bands that are blending traditional sounds with modern energy and style. \nBands like Emery Villains\, and others like Brian Setzer\, Reverend Horton Heat\, and Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys\, are all helping to carry the torch for rockabilly music\, while also pushing the genre forward with their own unique twists and interpretations. \nIt’s great to see rockabilly’s legacy living on through these bands\, and introducing the music to new fans who may not have been born when the genre first emerged. They’re keeping the spirit of rockabilly alive\, with its signature blend of country\, blues\, and early rock ‘n’ roll\, while also making it relevant and exciting for contemporary audiences. \nEmery Villains\, in particular\, has a great sound that blends classic rockabilly with a modern edge. Their music has a high-energy feel that’s perfect for dancing\, and their lyrics often have a fun\, tongue-in-cheek vibe that’s reminiscent of the genre’s early days. \nPresented by Left of the Dial and KDRT

Their music lifts the stories and shapes the emotional arc of the evening. Earlier songs invite introspection and emotional depth\, gradually moving toward joyful celebration. The central role of music in the event mirrors its central role in Filipino culture. \nWhile rooted in Filipino culture\, the experience is designed to be meaningful for people of all backgrounds. It is intended to bring forth reflection on one’s own journey\, or that of one’s family—paths shaped by survival and the search for opportunity\, identity\, and home. \nLight audience participation opens the event\, followed by quiet listening during the narratives and music. DESCRIPTION:The Davis Senior High School Jazz Choir invites the community to experience two unforgettable evenings of music\, movement\, and show-stopping performances at its annual Jazz Choir Cabaret\, taking place Friday and Saturday\, March 20 and 21\, 2026\, at the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall on the Davis Senior High School campus. \nThe cabaret-style evening offers more than just a concert—it’s a full entertainment experience. Audiences can expect a high-energy production featuring the full Jazz Choir\, standout soloists\, and small group numbers that blend jazz\, pop\, and contemporary vocal styles with polished choreography. \nTwo Viewing Options on Friday and Saturday: \nDinner & Show ($55): Enjoy an exclusive dining experience with mocktails and a catered dinner provided by Simply Satisfied Catering Co. in the Choir Room\, along with live entertainment from the Jazz Choir and Jazz Band Ensemble. After dinner\, guests will be escorted to reserved seating for the 7:00 PM performance. \nShow Only ($30) and Show Only – Student ($15): For those attending only the performance\, doors open at 6:45 PM. Guests will be treated to mocktails and the opportunity to participate in the raffle before the show starts at 7:00 PM. \nProceeds from the Jazz Choir Cabaret directly support the Davis Senior High School Jazz Choir program\, helping fund music\, choreography\, costumes\, and performance opportunities for students throughout the year.
