DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebratig the release of local author\, Lally Pia’s new memoir- The Fortune Teller’s Prophecy. This event is on Thursday May 2 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. \nAbout the Author \nLally Pia completed medical school at U.C. Davis. She did her psychiatry residency at San Mateo and a Child Fellowship at Davis.  As Assistant Professor she ran the psychiatry program for California Northstate University Medical School from 2017 to 2019. She currently works at River Oak Center For Children in Sacramento as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Lally lives with her husband\, Tim in Davis\, California. When she is not writing\, Zorro\, her German Shepherd takes her for a walk.\nAbout the Book\nWhen a military coup in Ghana leads to the abrupt closure of Lally Pia’s medical school\, she is left stranded there\, thousands of miles away from her family in California\, with no educational prospects or money. Adding to her turmoil is her discovery that her American Green Card has been botched\, which means she has no country to call home. But a Sri Lankan priest told Lally that she would one day become a “Doctor of Doctors” —and she is intent on proving him right.

After a hiatus due to Covid and the complete reconstruction of the event location\, folk musicians are once again invited to bring their acoustic instruments and play together informally during this jam session at Wyatt Deck (located next to the redwood grove in the UC Davis Arboretum). \nPull out your fiddles\, guitars\, mandolins\, penny whistles\, pipes\, flutes\, squeezeboxes—you name it!—and join your fellow musicians for a little bluegrass\, old-time\, blues\, Celtic\, klezmer\, and world music over the lunch hour. All skill levels welcome and listeners are invited. Takes place Fridays from 12–1p. \nShort-term parking is available in Visitor Lot 5 on Old Davis Road at Arboretum Drive.
