Browse work ranging from prints and paintings\, to ceramics and jewelry. Artists will be handling their own sales and accepting payments through cash\, check\, and mobile pay apps. All proceeds go directly to the artists! \n— \nInterested in applying as an artist? \nApplication Deadline: September 21 \nInterested artists\, ages 16-25\, must apply online through our website by the deadline (free). The Pence provides a venue at $15/accepted artist\, and artists must bring their own table to display items. All art sales are handled by participants\, and all proceeds go directly to the artist. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pence for our 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on October 13\, 6 – 9 PM. Enjoy some wine while browsing the new art exhibits on display\, and visit the courtyard to shop from our pop-up Night Market. Free admission. \n  \nTwilight \nOct. 10 – Dec. 1 \nFor artists\, more than simply a time of day\, twilight can function as a sort of in-between space\, opening boundaries between formerly distinct objects or ideas. In this liminal space four artists from Siskiyou County – Belinda Hanson\, Chris Clother\, Cathy Valentine\, and Carol Jenkins – address the very real changes they’ve encountered over the past three years. Through installations\, mixed media\, paintings\, and assemblage\, they address their relationship with nature\, light\, and the vagaries of life as they know it.  \n  \nAndres Alvarez: Quotidian Fire/El Fuego Cotidiano \nOct. 3 – Nov. 2 \nAndres Alvarez is a peripatetic photographer who has largely focused his lens on the streets of Sacramento\, documenting the cultural celebrations\, practices\, and daily life of the diverse people who live in the region. His careful attention to the formal elements and the beauty of color is always present\, even as he captures the conflict and economic disparity present in our own backyard.  \n  \nMichael Mikolon: Garments \nOct. 6 – Nov. 26 \nMichael Mikolon delves into the intricate relationship between clothing and identity\, and the stories inherent in our garments\, in a new series of drawings. Created using pastel and charcoal on Canson paper\, these works explore the connection between clothing and the individuals who choose to wear them\, and how garments can express individuality\, values\, or cultural identity. \n  \nNight Market in the Courtyard \nOct. 13\, 6 – 8 PM \nVisit our pop-up Night Market behind the Pence\, featuring work of a variety of media by young visual artists. The artists will be handling their own transactions through cash\, check\, and mobile pay apps\, and the artists keep all proceeds. SUMMARY:Blanketed: New Paintings by Jack McTiernan
DESCRIPTION:Using a combination of materials\, Jack creates dynamic images that celebrate the beauty in everyday surroundings. “Blanketed” refers to his layering process\, beginning with a watercolor\, pastel and acrylic background applied with spray or airbrush. Hand-cut stencils and graphite produce a foreground which is finished with a layer of ink and a mixture of cold wax and oil paint.  Jack’s unique paintings highlight the beauty in shapes created by what mankind has manufactured to fill the landscape – buildings\, bridges; even streetlights and stop signs. \nThe Artery presents Blanketed with an Artery reception on Friday\, November 10\, 7-9 pm.  The artist will also have a Q & A from 11-Noon at the Artery on October 29.  In addition\, Jack opens his Davis studio from 4-6pm on November 17. \n  \n
