SUMMARY:Art in Action: Luminous Paper Lanterns
DESCRIPTION:Art in Action Family Art Workshops: \nThe Pence Gallery invites children and their families to participate in our monthly family art workshops! Art in Action engages kids in art projects that are fun\, creative\, and collaborative with their family members. This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12\, with no pre-registration required. Projects are designed to introduce kids to making their own artwork by experimenting with creative ideas and materials. Our resident art teacher will introduce you to the wealth of possibilities in our upstairs classroom. \n  \nHow it works: \nWhen you arrive\, sign in at the front desk to pay with cash or card. There is a fee per child of $4 for Pence Members or $8 for Non-Members. A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay\, but only has to pay for the project if they are also doing art. (Become a Member starting at $65/year and save!) Stay as long or as short as you like over the two hour period. Space and supplies are limited to the first 25 participants and are available on a first come\, first served basis. \n  \nLuminous Paper Lanterns | Sunday\, June 2\, 1 – 3 PM \nLight up your summer evenings with a lantern that sparkles and glows! DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pence Gallery for our 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on June 14\, 6 – 9 PM. The community is invited to shop from a variety of cool creations in our pop-up Night Market\, as well as participate in making a clay tile for a memorial mosaic. Enjoy some wine while browsing the art on display too. Free admission! \n  \nNight Market at the Pence \nInside the gallery from 6 – 9 PM \nShop from aspiring young artists and support the local art scene. Browse work ranging from prints and paintings\, to ceramics and jewelry\, and more. Artists will be handling their own sales through cash\, check\, mobile pay\, etc. All proceeds go directly to the artists! \n  \nMake a Clay Tile! \nIn the courtyard from 6 – 8 PM \nThe Davis Cemetery District’s COVID-19 Memorial Artist Team invites the public to make a ceramic tile for the mosaic installation. All supplies and instructions are provided for this fun and free activity. Open to all ages and experience levels. \n  \nGarden Tour Plein Air Paintings \nMay 25 – June 25 (New!) \nAs an essential part of our May 5 Garden Tour event\, five artists participated in creating distinct views of the selected gardens. Artists Raquel Cox\, Barbara Smithson\, Marie-Therese Brown\, Marlene Lee\, and Teresa Steinbach-Garcia worked in different media\, from oil and acrylic paint to watercolors. We are grateful to the artists who dedicated their time to paint during Garden Tour\, and for the ability to display their completed paintings along the stairway.  \n  \nRenewal: Paintings by Inga Poslitur \nMay 3 – June 23 \nInga Poslitur’s new series of oil paintings capture flowering plants in natural environments\, as well as in lovely arrangements of bouquets in domestic settings. Painting from life\, she emphasizes the life cycle of plants by detailing their blooming and fading in glorious detail\, capturing moments of beauty to be cherished long after the petals have fallen. \n  \n— \n  \nVisit the Pence and other venues in Downtown Davis for the 2nd Friday artwalk. SUMMARY:Printmaking with Emma Montalbano
DESCRIPTION:This 2 day workshop will survey different printmaking techniques: screen printing\, block printing\, and monotype printing.Attendees will learn the basics of image-based screen printing; bring any image of choice and create a screen with emulsion. Learn the differences in materials within block printing\, including different block materials and inks\, and how to safely carve a design into a linocut\, wood\, or rubber block. Explore the unique method of monotype printing\, which creates a single image each time you print. Participants will also learn how to paint with ink\, different ink removal techniques to create designs\, and mono-print techniques with images. Materials included.
