SUMMARY:Weave a Willow Bird Feeder
DESCRIPTION:Willow is a wonderful\, abundant riparian resource well-suited to weaving\, thanks to the strength and flexibility of its stems. In this workshop led by Natascha Paxton participants will learn a simple spiral weave technique to craft a small bird feeder out of ‘Sandbar Willow.’ Participants will also learn how to make their own vegan\, peanut-free bird seed balls to fill their feeders and support local birds. \nThis is a gentle\, beginner-friendly introduction to working with willow and an approachable first weaving project. If you are interested in working further with willow and advancing your weaving skills\, check out our upcoming Willow Basketry workshop with Samantha Iacobello! \nAll tools and materials will be provided. This workshop requires hand strength\, the ability to do repetitive hand movements\, and comfort sitting on the ground for extended periods of time. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring a cushion or low lawn chair for seating. You are welcome to bring your favorite utility or pocket knife and a set of pruning shears if you have either. \nAge 12+. \n

SUMMARY:Raíces en Movimiento
DESCRIPTION:A dynamic gathering that weaves together dance\, history\, and musical exploration to celebrate stories of Latin American migration. \nPart of the I-House World Tour: Roots & Routes series\, Raíces en Movimiento is a multidisciplinary performance that weaves together dance\, storytelling\, poetry\, and historical reflection to honor the sacrifices and resilience of Latin American migration. \nThrough movement and voice\, the performance explores themes of displacement\, identity\, and the search for belonging\, while celebrating the ways culture continues to connect communities across borders and generations. Traditional and contemporary dances from across Latin America are paired with original narration and poetry\, transforming migration stories into a shared rhythm of resilience\, memory\, and joy. \nMore than a performance\, this gathering invites community members to pause\, reflect\, and celebrate the power of heritage and movement as pathways for healing\, connection\, and cultural memory. Following the performance\, guests are invited to stay\, connect\, and continue the conversation in community. \n$20 General Admission; $15 I-House Members and Students; $10 per child (under 18); At the Door $25

SUMMARY:Photography Club of Davis
DESCRIPTION:Photographer Robert Norris Presents Grand Canyon: River of Light \nThe Photography Club of Davis will host a free presentation by photographer Robert Norris on Thursday\, April 16\, at 7:10pm in the Blanchard Room of the Davis Library at 315 E 14th St. Norris will share Grand Canyon: River of Light\, a collection of images from oar-powered trips through the Grand Canyon in 2008 and 2012 with Wilderness River Adventures. \nRaised in England\, Norris moved to Edmonton\, Canada\, in 1960 to pursue a PhD in crop ecology at the University of Alberta. His academic career later took him to Michigan State University and then to UC Davis\, where he joined the Botany Department in 1967. He retired in 2001 and is now an emeritus professor in Plant Sciences. \nNorris began photographing in 1959 using a Leica III with a Weston 1 exposure meter and extension tubes for macro—definitely not point and shoot photography. He now works with Nikon equipment\, focusing largely on macro photography. He has exhibited twice in Davis\, contributed more than 400 plant images to the CalPhotos database\, and taught several workshops\, including recent sessions on focus stacking. \nOutside of photography\, Norris has traveled widely\, taught vegetable gardening to Master Gardener trainees for nearly forty years\, and grows about 80% of his family’s fruit and vegetables. He is also an accomplished Masters swimmer\, with national and world titles in the 200 meter backstroke. \nGrand Canyon: River of Light features images of the canyon’s light\, geology\, and the Colorado River. \nThe Photography Club of Davis meets on the third Thursday of each month and welcomes members of the public to attend. More information is available at https://photoclubofdavis.wordpress.com. \n“This event is not sponsored by Yolo County Library and the presence of this group in the meeting room does not constitute Yolo County Library’s endorsement of the policies or beliefs of this group.”
