DESCRIPTION:Teslim (Tes-LEEM) means both ‘commit’ and ‘surrender’ in Turkish and features founders \nKaila Flexer – violin\nGari Hegedus – oud\, Turkish saz\, mandocello and tarhu.\nNew members include\nElana Brutman\, Cretan lyra with sympathetic strings and\nJoshua Mellinger\, percussion (frame drum\, zarb\, tabla\, cajon and darabuka).\nAll four musicians also compose contemporary modal music. The quartet performs these compositions as well as Turkish classical pieces\, Turkish and Greek folk music as well as repertoire from the Balkans. \nWe are excited to partner with TimnaTal Music\, hoping to bring a regular series of exotic\, boundary-stretching international acts to The Melon Ball.  For info about TimnaTal Music and founder Gil Medovoy visit their website here. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a cozy autumn afternoon of beautiful bossa nova in an intimate backyard setting near downtown Davis! Mais Bossa plays the classics and deep cuts of the bossa nova era along with Brazilian inspired takes on American favorites. A native of Goiânia\, vocalist Marcia Jacomo fronts the band with her angelic and playful voice. The rhythmic heartbeat is supplied by the Brazilian master of percussion Alex Calatayud. Patrick Langham of legendary local bands Boca do Rio and Big Sticky Mess plays bass. Billy Larkin brings decades of jazz piano experience with his delightfully unique arrangements. \nTickets are $20.
