DESCRIPTION:Hear What a Century of Musical Experiences Sounds Like\nWhen The Davis Klezmer Orchestra takes to Peregrine Stage \n  \nJuly 17\, 2023 (Davis\, CA) – The Davis Klezmer Orchestra will present a free concert at Peregrine School’s South campus Saturday\, August 12. Peregrine School’s 2023 Second Saturday Family Concert Series is presented with support\, in part\, by a grant from the City of Davis Arts & Cultural Affairs program. There is a suggested donation of $20\, but no one will be turned away due to a lack of funds. There will be an educational presentation at 10:00am and the concert will start at 11:00am. The public is invited to either\, or both\, of the presentations. The gates of Peregrine’s campus (2650 Lillard Drive\, Davis) will open at approximately 9:45am. Outdoor seating is limited and will be on a first come\, first served basis. For information\, contact Peregrine School at (530) 753-5500 and www.peregrineschool.org. \nKlezmer [combination of the Hebrew klei/kli (instrument) and zemer (song)] can be described as party music! Its lively infectious melodies and rhythms have made it ideal for weddings\, parties\, and religious celebrations. Typically lacking vocals\, klezmorim imitate the voice with virtuosic\, often humorous\, performance techniques. This will be a toe-tapping concert! \nThe Davis Klezmer Orchestra are Moreen Libet (viola and the sister of R. Libet)\, Julie Cooper (violin)\, Ralph Libet (violin)\, Nick Carvajal (guitar and drums)\, and Steve O’Neil (bass). Each band member has an extensive performing history\, so much so that their cumulative experience spans more than a century! \nA 501(c)3 non-profit\, founded in 2007\, Peregrine School is an independent school that builds children’s capacity to learn\, think and do in our ever-changing world. Peregrine is the only progressive school in the Sacramento Valley. Located in Davis\, California\, Peregrine serves children from preschool through the sixth grade\, drawing students from throughout the Sacramento Valley. Peregrine School educates the whole child\, incorporating the latest research on teaching and learning into a child-centered curriculum that integrates hands-on scientific inquiry\, critical thinking\, wellness and the arts. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Art in Action: Family Art Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Family Art Workshops: Look\, it’s new! \nThis summer\, the Pence Gallery invites children and their families to participate in the return of our family art workshops! Our program\, Art in Action\, offers kids ages 5-12 engaging art projects that prioritize having fun and learning together with parents or adult caregivers. Projects are designed to introduce kids to making their own artwork by experimenting with creative ideas and materials. Our resident art teacher will introduce you to the wealth of possibilities in our upstairs classroom. This is a drop-in program\, with no registration required.  \n  \nHow it works: \nThere is a fee per child of $5 for Pence members or $10 for non-members\, and you can pay at the door with cash or card. (Become a member starting at $65/year and save!) A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay\, but only has to pay for the project if they are also doing art. Stay as long or as short as you like over the two hour period. \n  \nWorkshop on Sunday\, August 20\, 1 – 3 PM: \nThis program offers exciting projects on the drop-in dates of Jul. 23\, Aug. 20\, and Sep. 17. The August workshop is Terrific Terrariums. Bring your blankets\, chairs\, bug spray\, and anything else you need to enjoy a movie on the grass and under the stars. This is a four-movie season with movies playing on 8/26\, 9/9\, 9/16\, and 9/23. Movies start at sunset. This movie\, Minions: The Rise of Gru\, will start screening around 8:13 PM. \nVisit the Sunset Rotary Club of Davis website for the latest news\, info\, and safety information. \nFood and drinks will be available for purchase at the event.
