This exhibition features exceptional WCC student work that will be on view at Gallery 625 through the summer. Featured artists include current and former WCC students. \nGallery 625 will hold an opening reception for the WCC Student Showcase from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday\, May 1. There will be live music provided by Harold Sexton\, as well as light refreshments. DESCRIPTION:So much is happening in our country and the world right now that is heartbreaking. Everything feels less stable and less safe. It’s hard to listen to the news without dissolving into a pool of anxiety. Harder still to find moments of joy\, or grace. \nI-House wants to change that. So we’ve invited artist Jesikah Maria Ross to dream up another interactive\, art-filled gathering that brings folks together to play\, share stories and lift each other up. It’s called Hope Café. She piloted the event last year\, and we think our community could use another one right about now. \nAt Hope Café you’ll get some time away from the news cycle and instead experience:\n– Local artists jazzing up the space with music and poetry\n– Lighthearted activities that spark curiosity and delight\n– Conversations that build connection in creative\, human ways \nMay’s Hope Café features world jazz duo Nick Carvajal and Jim Frink\, as well as the youth acapella quartet Davis Local Vocals—Evie Barnett\, Ruby Schwerin\, Charlotte DelFavero\, and Matthew Vallero. \nAll of it unfolds in a warm\, welcoming space – complete with snacks! DESCRIPTION:For over fifty years Bobby has had a love affair with music\, and the guitar. Strongly influenced by the likes of Hendrix\, Clapton\, Alvin Lee\, Leslie West\, Sly Stone and Freddie Stone\, he has played and recorded with a long list of people including; The Natural Four\, Sugar Pie DeSanto\, Richard “Dimples” Fields\, John Lee Hooker\, Maria Muldaur\, Jimmy McCracklin\, Craig Horton\, Snooky Flowers\, Cool Papa\, Archie Lee Hooker\, Zakiya Hooker\, and Alabama Mike. \nBobby also had the honor of doing guitar work on the Cd’s “From Clarksdale To Heaven – Remembering John Lee Hooker”\, and “John Lee Hooker\, Face to Face”. The “BYP” is made up of\, Bobby Young – guitar/vocals\, his son Nick Young – guitar\, Michael Rogers – bass\, Latrosse Harris – drums\, and Gig Anderson – keyboards. The band works often with the John Lee Hooker Foundation for their “Blues In The Schools” fundraisers\, and in 2016\, The Bobby Young Project was named “Blues Band Of The Year”\, and they were nominated for the same honor in 2017\, and 2018 by the Northern California Entertainment Music Awards. \nPresented by Left of the Dial and KDRT
