DESCRIPTION:Davis Craft and Vintage Fair began as the Square Tomatoes Craft Fair more than 10 years ago! The event was started by instructors from the UC Davis Craft Center in order to have a monthly craft fair for local artisans and the local community. We embraced local vintage vendors in 2017\, we’ve grown and we are still home to local artists and makers from the Davis and greater Sacramento area. \nWe collaborate with local non-profits starting with Couleurs Vives Art Studio who joined us in 2018! Many of our talented vendors can be found at other festivals like the Davis Phoenix Coalition’s Pride Fest\, the I-House’s International Festival\, and 2nd Friday ArtAbouts on E Street Plaza. \nExpect to see friendly vendors with local handmade and original art\, crafts\, quality vintage items\, upcycled treasures\, earth-friendly creations\, good food\, and more. Free live music fills the open space for a lively atmosphere so be sure to stop by and join us!  \n

SUMMARY:BlackBox Ensemble: Thursday Concert
DESCRIPTION:About BlackBox Ensemble\nNamed as “ambitious” by TimeOut and The New Yorker\, the NYC-based BlackBox Ensemble is a collective of contemporary music performers dedicated to exploring the wide-ranging world of the music of our time. Their 2025–26 season includes a return to The Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art\, debuts at National Sawdust and Bowerbird\, and residencies at Penn State\, George Washington University\, UC Davis\, San Francisco State University\, Williams College and a year-long appointment as Ensemble in Residence with University of Richmond\, and more. \nTheir name\, BlackBox\, comes from the many meanings the term holds. In theatre\, a black box is a bare\, flexible space — four dark walls that can transform into anything\, creating an environment ripe for bold experimentation and intimate connection. In science and technology\, a black box is a system with known inputs and outputs\, but the mystery of what happens inside makes it compelling. For us\, we believe music\, as a cultural medium\, lives in that same space — enacting an ambiguous but vital relationship between artistic expression and social life\, where sound\, expression\, and human experience collide in ways that can’t always be explained\, but always resonate. Guided by the spirit of the theatrical black box\, we create programs that invite risk\, innovation\, and connection\, presenting contemporary classical music in ways that feel fresh\, human\, and alive. \nTheir 2024–25 season included concerts at home in New York and around the country\, including a thrilling run of our Speculative Listening program at Bang On A Can Long Play Festival\, The Whitney Museum\, and Chatham PS21 curated by Eastman scholar Isaac Jean-François\, as well as performances at Southern Exposure Series at the University of South Carolina\, Timucua Arts Foundation\, and residencies at the University of Chicago\, University of Florida\, and University of Central Florida. \nTheir 2023–24 season included touring engagements in Washington\, DC\, Florida\, Michigan\, and throughout the Northeast as well as residencies at University of Florida\, University of Michigan\, NYU\, and the Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School. The season opened with The Sound of Space Between Us\, a site-specific\, outdoor music and dance performance at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown\, Massachusetts conceived by our flutist Annie Nikunen. We also presented the live premiere of Borrowed Landscape\, a radio play by German playwright duo tauchgold with music by Dai Fujikura\, at the Noguchi Museum\, in a program that also features music by Anna Thorvaldsdottir\, inti figgis-vizueta\, and Toru Takemistu. We reprised our performance of Borrowed Landscape at the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art as part of a two-concert series. In addition\, we celebrated our 5-year anniversary with our inaugural BlackBox Festival\, including our debut at Roulette Intermedium.

DESCRIPTION:A Filipino musical storytelling event \n  \nThis immersive experience weaves together storytelling and live Filipino music\, inviting the audience into a contemplative yet communal journey centered on the themes of Becoming\, Belonging\, Being\, and Beyond. \nThe narrative is anchored by the story of Dr. Julie Arellano\, alongside the inspiring stories of Filipino Americans in the Sacramento community—Claire Oliveros\, PhD\, Pauline Roselada\, Karlo Feliciano\, and Thea Feliciano. \nDr. Arellano is joined by Steven Johnson\, Eileen Lichnock\, and Dr. Alex Mallari in performing live Filipino music throughout the program. Their music lifts the stories and shapes the emotional arc of the evening. Earlier songs invite introspection and emotional depth\, gradually moving toward joyful celebration. The central role of music in the event mirrors its central role in Filipino culture. \nWhile rooted in Filipino culture\, the experience is designed to be meaningful for people of all backgrounds. It is intended to bring forth reflection on one’s own journey\, or that of one’s family—paths shaped by survival and the search for opportunity\, identity\, and home. \nLight audience participation opens the event\, followed by quiet listening during the narratives and music. Attendees engage in self-reflection with a workbook as their companion during this introspective phase. The event ends with a lively communal activity. SUMMARY:Residue of Ritual Opening Reception at The Barn Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Barn Gallery’s upcoming exhibition Residue of Ritual: an exhibition of the discarded is a two-person show featuring works by artists Tana Quincy Arcega and Michael Ryan. The exhibition opens with a reception from 3 – 6 p.m. on Saturday\, March 14 with local wine and light refreshments. The Gibson House will also be open to the public during the event. \nIn Residue of Ritual\, Quincy Arcega and Ryan curate a spectacle of objects and images culled from the endless deposits of residual materials resulting from our accelerated growth economy. Their visual commentary angles on the cultural mindset of mass production and waste as well as the vast array of ritualistic systems and customs that produce them. \nBoth artists share a visual language based in realism that journeys toward abstraction through mimicry\, utilizing traditional art media and building materials to accomplish this end. With a fascination for textures\, the artists bring to light the hidden materials that pervade our landscapes\, from plastic packaging to fashion waste. \nResidue of Ritual is on view at The Barn Gallery March 14 through May 23\, 2026. DESCRIPTION:Davis Craft and Vintage Fair began as the Square Tomatoes Craft Fair more than 10 years ago! The event was started by instructors from the UC Davis Craft Center in order to have a monthly craft fair for local artisans and the local community. We embraced local vintage vendors in 2017\, we’ve grown and we are still home to local artists and makers from the Davis and greater Sacramento area. \nWe collaborate with local non-profits starting with Couleurs Vives Art Studio who joined us in 2018! Many of our talented vendors can be found at other festivals like the Davis Phoenix Coalition’s Pride Fest\, the I-House’s International Festival\, and 2nd Friday ArtAbouts on E Street Plaza. \nExpect to see friendly vendors with local handmade and original art\, crafts\, quality vintage items\, upcycled treasures\, earth-friendly creations\, good food\, and more. Free live music fills the open space for a lively atmosphere so be sure to stop by and join us!  \n
