SUMMARY:Yolo Audubon: Lake Solano Field Trip Oct. 29
DESCRIPTION:On this trip the Yolo Audubon Society will visit Lake Solano County Park where Putah Creek runs between Yolo and Solano Counties. They will be looking for resident species as well as those that spend the winter in the area. The oak woodland\, riparian habitat\, and creek can result in bird sightings that include osprey\, phainopepla and wood duck. There could be some surprises like Lewis’s woodpecker\, red-breasted sapsucker\, and even bald eagle. \nParticipants will meet at Lake Solano County Park when the park opens at 8a. Park in the day use area near the boat dock. A $8 per car fee will be needed for parking in the day use lot. \nAll levels of birders are welcome. The trip will conclude in the early afternoon. Bring water\, binoculars\, and spotting scopes if you have one. We will not be stopping for a designated lunch break. There is some walking on uneven terrain but for the most part it is flat. Rain and strong wind cancel the trip. No reservations necessary. \nFor more info\, contact Sharon Kirkpatrick at 530-220-3735 (cell) or sckirkpa@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Creek Explorers Field Day: Spooky Plant-palooza
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Halloween by exploring the fascinating world of the plants that call Putah Creek home\, and discover plants’ special skills called adaptations. What’s an adaptation? Make a leaf skeleton and even plant your own native plant to take home. \nJoin Putah Creek Council for free-form and hands-on educational activities and a volunteer stewardship opportunity at Lake Solano Park. Earn your official Plant-palooza badge\, and leave with free giveaways like a nature journal and a native plant. No registration required! \nCreek Explorers is Putah Creek Council’s new series of free family events that will take place at Lake Solano Park\, at 8685 Pleasants Valley Rd in Winters for 20 Saturdays from September 2022–June 2023.
