DESCRIPTION:BanjerDan (Dan Mazer) is a banjo player/multi-instrumentalist based in Santa Cruz\, CA. His music is an Americana mix\, rooted in straight-ahead Bluegrass and branching out to include folk\, country\, blues\, oldies\, and other styles. \nDan started playing Scruggs-style banjo in 1974\, during the Washington\, DC area’s heyday as a hotbed of bluegrass music\, earned a B.A. in Music Theory from George Washington University in 1984\, and picked up some skills on acoustic guitar\, mandolin\, and dobro along the way. Since then\, the banjo has taken Dan all across the U.S. and overseas\, as a solo artist\, as a member of bands\, and in theatrical productions and orchestral performances. Some of the more notable venues include Opryland\, USA\, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival\, the High Sierra Music Festival\, the National Cherry Blossom Festival\, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. These Sacramento musicians are among the most talented in the region\, truly creative\, and promise an evening full of beautiful surprises. Jenkins’ latest trio record\, “Black Bird” received a 4 star review in the music publication\, “All About Jazz”\, and has been played on radio stations across the country. \nDue to his in-depth study of the music of different cultures\, Alex’s playing transcends musical traditions and boundaries. His expression of rhythm is heavily influenced by his study of Tabla (a North Indian Classical Percussion instrument). As a result\, he has become known for his creative approach to music and his unique ability to fuse rhythmic ideas from various disciplines\, into one cohesive sound.
