In Mexico, and other Latin American countries, the Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration is a time to acknowledge, recognize, and honor the importance of familial or community loved ones represented in an elaborate and artist ofrenda or altar (display) that includes their picture, flowers, sugar skulls, papel picado, decorations, and favorite foods.
The Davis Phoenix Coalition, Ethnic Studies YOLO Academy, and UCD Mexican Graduate Student Association is looking for local organizations and community members to participate by applying to create ofrendas or altares for the 1st Día de Muertos Celebration at Central Park in Davis to be held Friday, November 3 from 3-8 PM.
Interested organizations and community members interested can submit a proposal of an ofrenda or altar honoring the life and memory of lost loved one(s) as part of a celebration of the traditions of the Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration no larger than 4×3 feet.
