Artist Talk: July 27, 3 – 4:30 PM (Free, donation $10 suggested)
Jaya King is an interdisciplinary visual artist and muralist focused on the use of dramatic texture and movement. Her current exhibit of paintings, aptly titled chromavista, expresses her interest in conveying a deeper feel for the land through the use of high-vibrational color and textured surfaces. After starting her pieces with a base of neon acrylic paint, she allows intuition to take over and guide her. Using palette knives and texture gels, she builds up the surface to carve out mountains, fields, and waterways. Cutting through the layers to reveal the movement of time and the transitory nature of color, the artist’s view of this region’s landscapes reveals itself.
