Poetry Night Reading Series: Brad Buchanan & Frank Dixon Graham

The Poetry Night Reading Series will feature Brad Buchanan with Frank Dixon Graham at 7 p.m. on the third floor (indoors) of the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 First St. in Davis. There will be an open mic after the featured performers. Open mic performances will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The open mic list typically fills by 7 p.m., so arrive early. Organizers recommend mask-wearing.
Brad Buchanan’s writings have appeared in nearly 200 journals, and he has also published three book-length collections of poetry: ‘The Miracle Shirker’ (Poet’s Corner Press, 2005), ‘Swimming the Mirror: Poems for My Daughter’ (Roan Press, 2008), and ‘The Scars, Aligned: A Cancer Narrative’ (Finishing Line Press, 2019). He has also published two academic books, and has recently written blog entries for ‘Poets & Writers’ and SacWellness.com. His essay “I’m Done with Being a Cancer Survivor: What I am Now is a GvHD Patient” was published in ‘Prometheus Dreaming’, an online journal.
Frank Dixon Graham has been published in over fifty national literary journals, including Evansville Review, Nassau Review, Hawaii Pacific Review, This Land, and the Harvard University Scriptorium. The author is organizing the California Colloquium on Social Justice Poetry and he organizes and he previously hosted the National Gathering of Social Justice Poets at the annual American Writers and Writing Programs Conference. The author, editor, and professor founded the Literary Lectures series and the Fifth Mondays Charity Benefit reading series and serves on the Board of the Directors of the Sacramento Poetry Alliance. Prior to founding the Sacramento Poetry Alliance with a few other poets in 2020, Graham served on the board of the Sacramento Poetry Center for fourteen years. Graham served as Editor in Chief for the Tule Review for several years and was also on staff as an editor, from 2012 to 2017. He has also been an editor for The Pitkin Review and Poetry Now. Graham holds an MFA in Writing from Goddard College and has certification in TESOL/TEFL/TESL. He holds an award from the Program for Professional Editors at UC Berkeley, certification in higher education pedagogy from the Derek Bok School of Teaching at Harvard University, and certification in educational technology from the University of Cape Town. Graham has recently been in the employment of the Los Rios Colleges, and also in collaboration with the University of California, Davis, as well as with the UC Davis Center for International Education. Additionally, he frequently serves as an adjunct professor of compostion and poetry at Sacramento City College, Folsom Lake College, and Cosumnes River College. The professor is a licensed soccer coach and an exhibited photographer. He enjoys traveling abroad and once finished second in his division in a marathon.

The Poetry Night Reading Series has been committed to serving the literary and arts community in the city of Davis since 2011. Happening every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at the Natsoulas Gallery, each reading contains two featured poets followed by an open mic. Poetry in Davis was voted “Best Open Mic” in The California Aggie’s “Best of Davis″ edition and has been featured in Davis Life Magazine. Readers have included UC Davis faculty Francisco X. Alarcón, John Boe, Joshua Clover, Jack Forbes, Clarence Major, Sandra McPherson, Katie Peterson, Margaret Ronda, Joe Wenderoth, and Alan Williamson, as well as many regional and traveling poets, including Molly Peacock, Dana Gioia, and James Ragan.
