Four long-time Davis residents and artisans will host an open-air Pop-Up Art Sale of their work on Sunday, November 3, at 806 Falcon Avenue in Davis. Follow the blue and yellow signs to this annual event which brings together a group of professionals who developed their artistic passions amid their careers or after retirement.
Nancy Gelbard discovered oil painting when joining her sisters in a week-long workshop on the Central Coast, almost 10 years ago. Her paintings include still life, plein air, and occasionally her husband David’s street photography. Nancy’s drawings focus on the human figure, still life, and her interpretation of master artists’ work. Nancy’s art has brought her a new kind of joy, friendships, and a keener awareness of the world around her.
Amina Harris creates unusual jewelry blending beads, gemstones, and artifacts from all over the world. “My work brings together the unexpected, resulting in one-of-a-kind necklaces, collars, bracelets and earrings,” Harris said. She also serves as Queen Bee of The HIVE in Woodland.
David Kalb is a street and portrait photographer who loves Henri Cartier Bresson’s credo: “It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera…they are made with the eye, heart and head”. His journey into street photography began 12 years ago after selling his consulting business. According to Kalb, “I often view this as a people safari, roaming the streets of a city, camera at the ready, always keeping my eyes open for humorous situations, intriguing expressions, ironic moments, and touching interactions”.
Rebecca Stein-Wexler designs and hand-paints silk scarves, shawls, and wall art. She uses a palette of vivid dyes to create stylized images from the natural world. “I find the flow of color on silk mesmerizing and love creating art for people to enjoy.” Both Amina and Rebecca are members of the Artery, an Artist co-op in downtown Davis.
If you’re looking for something beyond the usual to gift or for yourself this season, visit these four artists’ open-air pop-up sale on Sunday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.
