Weave a Cattail Visor Sunhat

In this hands-on workshop led by Samantha Iacobello, participants will learn simple, beginner friendly techniques such as plaiting, coiling, and sewing to weave a crownless, full brim sunhat using cattail gathered from Samantha’s local watersheds.
Samantha Iacobello has been wild foraging basketry plants for weaving projects for the last six years and has been teaching for four years at her off-grid home in Calaveras county. She is an archaeobotanist, ecologist, conservationist, and a professional landscaper and arborist – all of which have contributed to her current passion of weaving baskets and other projects.
All tools and materials will be provided. This workshop requires the ability and patience to do repetitive hand movements, and comfort sitting on the ground for extended periods of time. This offering is part of Davis Forest School’s Adult/Family workshops, and is open to ages 10+.
